TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

If coral is alive, and animal, does it eat?
Do corals reproduce?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What is a cultured pearl?
Natural pearls are created when a piece of debris (sand,
shell, etc.) gets inside an oyster's shell and irritates the
oyster. To protect itself, the oyster coats the irritant
with a substance called nacre, which hardens into a round,
smooth surface, forming a pearl. Cultured pearls are formed
by taking advantage of this natural process. Basically, a
bead-sized irritant (often a piece of shell) is purposely
grafted or inserted into the oyster. After several years of
caring for the oyster, it's pulled out of the water and the
pearl is harvested. It doesn't always work, of course. Some
oysters die prior to harvesting, others reject the irritant,
and some produce pearls that aren't considered nice enough
to sell.
Is coral a rock or a plant?
Neither. Coral are actually minute animals called polyps
(only a few millimeters long) living together in massive
colonies. When you look at hard coral, you're seeing the
outer skeleton of the polyps. Only the outermost part of
coral is alive. Underlying layers are the skeletons of dead
polyps.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!
with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
---------------------
You And The Brass Ring
Your goals usually reflect positive changes you wish to make
in yourself, your condition, your health, your wealth or
your relationships. They often simultaneously fill you with
the hope of life being different, and empty you with the
familiarity of it remaining the same! You set out to make
these positive changes with good intention, and, all too
often, you're soon soothing yourself with good reasons why
you are off track. Sound familiar?
Maybe you have used some of these logical-sounding phrases
to trick yourself into complacency: "It's too hard." "My
knees cannot take this." "It takes too much time." "My
husband/wife/children/dog/mother did not like me doing it."
"I'm too busy." "It takes too much energy that I need for
my job." "It costs too much." "It's too late to teach an
old dog new tricks." If not these ones, you may have some
tried and true ones of your very own!
In most cases, the goals were chosen to help you reach a
vision you held of better health, a greater sense of
well-being, healthier relationships with yourself and
others, as well as with time, money energy and success. So,
if you gave up the goal, what does it leave you with? Well,
for one thing, it leaves you with a life you recognize very
well. Is that alright with you?
What prevents you from being on your own team and stepping
up to bat with high intention, ready to skilfully hit the
ball to your personal best? What happens to you inside when
you don't stick with the program? Are you disappointed in
yourself, angry at yourself, or, maybe, relieved? Why do you
choose not to keep your commitments to yourself?
You have all the information you need to know that a change
in your life would be desirable. You may admire people who
have made those changes. So, what's missing from your
personal formula for success? What keeps you and the brass
ring at more than arm's length?
Let's look at a very common goal: to implement an exercise
program you can stick with. For some folks, the only
exercise they get is pushing their luck or raising their
eyebrows. It is likely, though, that most of you would like
to do better than that.
Ask yourself a few questions about your goal. Why do you
want to have an exercise program? You might say, "So I can
be healthier." Great! So, why do you want to be healthier?
"To have more energy, lose weight, sleep less, look younger,
and probably live longer." Wow! Those sound like compelling
reasons!
Next question: What would your life be like if you had more
energy, weighed less, slept less, looked younger and lived
longer? Well, one thing is for sure: Your life would change.
Are you ready for that change? What are the trade-offs
between your present lifestyle and your new one? What will
you gain? (No pun intended) What might you lose? What would
you not have time for if you implemented this program? How
would you feel if you gave up this goal entirely and never,
ever thought about it again? Is that acceptable to you?
Next to final question: Would achieving this goal give you a
deep sense of satisfaction and contentment within yourself?
Final question: Do you deserve to feel that good? If the
answer is a resounding "Yes!", then go for it! If the answer
is a resolute, "No!", then lie back down, replenish your
chocolate supply and lie still until the inclination to
exercise passes!
I'm sure you are getting the idea. Unless something is
deeply important to you AND you feel you deserve to have it,
the odds are against you. On the other hand, if it IS
important to you and you do deserve to have it, AND you
focus your time, energy, skills and resources on the goal,
you are almost certain to achieve it.
To catch the brass ring, you have to be willing to stretch!
Are you?

How Nutritional Supplements (Nutrients)
Are Supposed To Work.
Nutrients are chemical substances that provide nourishment
and affects nutritive and metabolic processes of the body.
You must have them for growth, reproduction, and
maintenance of your health.
Imagine a big hole (a.k.a. body) that has to be filled with
all different kind of rocks (a.k.a. nutrients). When you first
took possession (born), it was filled to the brim with all
sort of wonderful and different kind of rocks. But it was
pretty perfect. At the beginning, your family helped you
to fill it with the best rocks and you took really good care
of it. By now, you have lost interest in filling it, yet you
know you had to fill it or it would collapse. So you give
it rocks and stones, but not the best. Eventually you
realize that you need to pay more attention and start
to search out better rocks and stones. It's a big hole to
fill and needs many different types of stones to fill in.
So you put in very large ones (macronutrients:
carbohydrate, protein, and fat). Then, you discover
that there are still some spaces left. So in your research
you read that you need to add smaller ones
(micro-nutrients: vitamins) but that still isn't enough.
So you added different kinds (more micro-nutrients: minerals)
and think it's all finished only to discover that there
are still tiny holes and without them, the hole won't
perform they way you want it to.
Our bodies' cells are complex, integrated living systems
requiring all the essential vitamins, antioxidants and
minerals to survive and thrive. We know that it is important
to eat a diet that supplies a wide array of nutrient-dense
foods; a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and one that
supplies all the essential micro-nutrients, including the
right amounts and kinds of carbohydrate, protein, and
fat. It's all about balance and completeness.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

The joy in the village was beyond joy. There was a
collective sigh of relief and an amazing appreciation for
the kids in the village.
Many of the adults had been away from their kids for a
couple days, but the absence of children of any age in the
village was terrible. It left a hole in the village and in
the hearts and minds of the adult population. It was almost
as if a disaster had struck, the emotional desolation that
was setting in was touchable.
Then, when the children began to show up, safe and
sound, excited and wanting to talk, the joy was
overwhelming. Many of the parents wept. They had never gone
through such a thing as this.
The only ones to realize what was happening and who were
okay with the absence of the children were those adults who
lived by higher law. Even so it was weird in the village
without the children. It gave everyone a new appreciation of
the children and the lot they contributed to village life.
It did not matter what the adults were told by those who
knew, the hole in each heart was emotionally taxing.
When the village saw all the kids were back and that all
were safe they mingled together, hugged and kissed their
kids and listened to their stories.
The children had amazing stories of the orphanage in
China and of the great Serengeti plains in Africa. Some of
the adults did not believe there could be so many animals
congregated together.
Yet because the stories were consistent from each child
they had to believe it. Additionally, each adult was aware
his or her child was no longer held to ground. Each adult
realized their children had matured years in the last two
days and had knowledge available to them the adults would
never have until they, too, accepted higher law.
Excitement was running high in the village and not from
the children. It was the adults who had a new lease on life.
It was the parents who were happy and excited.
The fire this night would be a great one and there would
be lots of stories told this night.
Eloise, too, was happy to see her children. She was
amazed at how they had grown up in the last few days. It was
at once sad and joyful to see. She was sad because she was
not sure she wanted to let go. She was happy because her
children were doing exactly what she had spent so many years
teaching them to be.
Between herself, Mazunta and the grandparents these two
children were knowledgeable, self reliant, reserved, stately
and carried themselves with a demeanor that would make any
parent proud. It was plain each was a leader and their
bearing was that of their Father.
Eloise, herself, was no slouch either. She was the
perfect mate for the magnificent Mazunta. She, too, had a
regal bearing and was most clearly looked upon with very
high regard by anyone in her presence. The children of
this duo were clear fruit of their loins.
Maz and Eloise were always proud of the way their
children carried themselves. They were being prepared for
leadership of the village if the village so wanted. Neither
Maz nor Eloise would speak about that, and they had trained
their children not to speak of such things. They well knew
the role of leader would be much better and easier if the
chair sought them rather than them seeking the chair. If
they were a natural, unsolicited choice of the village then
that is the way it should be. For the children to seek that
would be to weaken their position within the village. Yet it
was not to be assumed they would take on that role. When the
time came that would be a choice of each member in the
village.
"Funny," thought Eloise, "how far life has come. It was
not too long ago when each of these people were drawing
nourishment from her own breast, just as she had done from
the woman who was now beside her, Alewka, her Mother."
"Yes, dear, life moves on just as it should." was the
message Eloise received from her Mother.
Suppers around the village were late that night and so
was the community fire. The village was abuzz all the day
and it must have been close to nine in the evening before
the community fire got under way.
Sitting with their parents, the children were reminded
of the pleasant evening fire they had spent at the orphanage
in China.
Some of them had quietened down some. They were not
tired. They were almost in a trance of hindsight. They were
all expressing gratitude and appreciation unto their Maker
within. Their lives had changed so much in the last few days
it was like a whirlwind. Now some of them were catching up.
Many were still talking up a storm, but on the whole
they were becoming pensive. One thing that surprised the
adults was the maturity of even the youngest child. Having
the faith and trust to use the laws of their Maker meant the
children were light years ahead of the mature adults
concerning knowledge and emotions.
Sonora and Hemno, were, of course, made welcome, yet the
village was so busy being happy to have their children home
that the pair of them were left alone, but for Sam and
Alewka and Maz and Eloise.
Sonora looked out over the village and had an
understanding of what was going on. She had a deep
appreciation for this village.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Jalopy: How did the "jalopy" get that name?
An old and dilapidated automobile rides more like a horse
than a smooth-running modern car; the motion is "gallop-y"
and from this we get, by softening of the sound of the g,
"jalopy".

A high-school geometry teacher started a lesson on triangles
by reading a theorem. "If an angle is an exterior angle of a
triangle, then its measure is greater than the measure of
either of its corresponding remote interior angles."
He noticed that one student wasn't taking notes and asked
him why.
"Well," the student replied sincerely, "I was waiting for
you to start speaking English."
