Bush battens down for hurricane Woodward
THE White House is bracing for a week of damage control
after the publication of State of Denial by investigative
journalist Bob Woodward, of Watergate fame.
In it he describes the Bush Administration as dysfunctional
and faction-ridden.
Woodward also takes aim at an "intellectually incurious"
President George Bush and senior officials who have
continually misled people about the violence and the
strength of the insurgency in Iraq.
The book reveals that while President Bush and
Vice-President Dick Cheney insist there is no comparison
between Iraq and the Vietnam War, Henry Kissinger, the
secretary of state during the Nixon administration, has
become a regular adviser to the President.
Mr Kissinger has argued that the Vietnam War was lost
because of a lack of political will. He confirmed at the
weekend that he had private meetings with Mr Bush — "just me
and the President".
Some of the Administration's conservative supporters would
find that revelation surprising given that they considered
Mr Kissinger to have been too soft on the Soviet Union
during the Cold War.
The 82-year-old Mr Kissinger is quoted as telling Mr Bush
that the US could not afford to lose in Iraq and that
"victory over the insurgency" was the only meaningful way
out.
The publishers of State of Denial rushed almost a million
copies of the book to bookshops at the weekend, pushing the
publication date forward as reports of some of its charges
started to appear in newspapers and television news reports
late last week.
It is believed that a team of White House officials have
been combing through the book to prepare a rebuttal, which
Administration officials will roll out this week, as
Woodward begins appearances on talk shows and current
affairs programs to promote the book.
Publication could not have come at a worse time for the
Administration and the Republican Party, with mid-term
elections just over a month away. Party strategists are
concerned that if the war is the main campaign issue,
Republican control of Congress will almost certainly be
lost.
The 500-page book has no smoking gun that proves, for
instance, that the Administration cooked the intelligence to
justify the war. But given Woodward's celebrity status —
which means the book is already a bestseller — and the fact
that his previous two books on the Administration were
considered favourable to the White House, it will be hard
for officials to suggest that he is just another liberal
journalist who cannot be believed.

While this is not a life-threatening moment, this
condition is NOT something to be ignored. I find many
people gloss over this. I feel very strongly that
something is causing this reaction. It just doesn’t
happen for no reason. High blood pressure
(hypertension) is well addressed by the medical
community. I feel that low blood pressure (hypotension)
is equally important yet mostly ignored. Treatment for
this is usually not as dramatic as calling 911, but I
feel the person should not drive themselves home. They
also need to be more aware of this reaction and
investigate its possible underlying cause, and get
treatment. Drugs and other chemicals may be the cause.
If blood doesn’t circulate to the brain, and
subsequently, to the lungs, isn’t that reason for
alarm? I think so. Don’t ignore this condition. Make
sure it is written into your health record.
Once you have received treatment for an anaphylactic
reaction and have been looked after for a minimum of
six hours within reach of medical help, you must do
some reviews. You have to find out what caused the
episode. It may happen again, with less favorable
consequences. Don’t play silly games with yourself and
ignore this.
Can you prevent anaphylaxis? First ask yourself why
does your body want to protect you? That is its nature
and it will go to amazing lengths to accomplish it. If
you look after your body, it will look after you. Good
partnership. How do you look after it? BY not
bombarding it with all sorts of chemicals, be they
prescribed and or recreation drugs, cigarettes, drugs,
additives in foods, diet products, etc. The list is
long and you have been exposed to it for quite a while
now. But the warnings are very real and true. The more
chemicals you take in, the more possible chances you
have to be “mismatched” and have a reaction. Pray that
it is not an anaphylactic one. They are scary for all
concerned. The only way to rebuild your body’s defenses
is through nutrition: not drugs or chemicals. It all
points to the immune system. Is yours overworked and
undernourished? Would it not make sense to strengthen
it as much as possible? How do you know it’s not
strong? By having these reactions when most people do
not. Incidentally, this might be a good time for you to
renew and upgrade your CPR certificate. A little
knowledge can increase your confidence immeasurably.

An Ultra Conservative Speaks Out!
I hope you folks had a nice weekend.
What do you think of the Title Article today? I notice there
is an ever increasing amount of criticism of President Bush
and the present administration's handling of the Iraq war.
Many think all the reasons for going to war were fabricated,
that it was a way for lots of people to make money, or to
save our supply of oil, or for many other reasons.
Many are now disillusioned over the present state and are
beginning to listen to the stories floating around that this
whole thing, including 9/11, was orchestrated by
friendlies, not terrorists.
Who knows?
And now you get an ultra conservative like Bob Woodward
writing a book that tends toward criticism of the President
and his cabinet.
Things may not be looking too good for the President if this
kind of thing keeps up. One thing I have noticed about
Mr. Woodward, he tends not to say things unless he knows.
So, maybe things aren't all peaches and cream in the good
old U. S. of A.
I am not here to say things are right or things are wrong. I
have no idea. But I'll tell you what is happening. With all
the wild accusations going on in the press, with an election
coming up soon and with the news out of the rest of the
world about wars and rumors of wars, people are scared.
You will get church leaders who want you to come to church
so you can find peace. The trouble is they don't deliver.
Peace of mind and being a peaceful person is your own
personal responsibility and can easily be found when you
make the decision to do so. There you have it. You can
choose peace and be a part of it or you can buy into the
frustrating, frightening world the news media would have you
do.
Peace is a personal responsibility. It will not come to
governments until the people are peaceful and then peaceful
people, getting elected, can begin to make peace happen. It
starts with YOU. It is your choice. That is why I recommend

A defendant was on trial for murder. There was strong
evidence indicating guilt, but there was no corpse. In the
defense's closing statement the lawyer, knowing that his
client would probably be convicted, decided to try a trick:
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have a surprise for you
all," the lawyer said as he looked at his watch. "Within one
minute, the person presumed dead in this case will walk into
this courtroom!"
He looked toward the courtroom door. The jurors, somewhat
stunned, all looked, eagerly. A minute passed. Nothing
happened.
Finally, the lawyer said, "Actually, I made up the previous
statement. But you all looked on with anticipation. I
therefore put it to you that there is reasonable doubt in
this case as to whether anyone was killed and insist that
you return a verdict of not guilty." With that, the jury
retired to deliberate. But after only a few minutes, they
came back and pronounced a verdict of guilty.
"But how?" the lawyer asked. "You must have had some doubt,
I saw all of you stare at the door."
"Oh, yes," the jury foreman replied: "We all looked -- but
your client didn't!"
