Why is bubble gum pink?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How old is chewing gum?
Well, according to the National Association of Chewing Gum
Manufacturers (yep, there's a national association for
everyone!), chewing gum dates back to the ancient Greeks. As
far back as 50 AD, Greeks were chewing mastiche, tree resin
from the Mastic tree. The ancient Mayans were chewing gum,
too. Their gum came from the latex of the Sapodilla tree and
was called chicle. That's now the main ingredient in modern
gum.
Who invented bubble gum?
Walter Diemer, a cost analyst for the Fleer Company,
invented bubble gum in 1928. Diemer knew nothing about
chemistry, but he was lucky enough to find just the right
ingredients to create a gum strong and elastic enough to
stretch into bubbles when filled with air.

Be Gracious!
Don't Take Unfair Advantage!
When the store manager returned from lunch, he
noticed his clerk's hand was bandaged, but before
he could ask about the bandage, the clerk said
he had some very good news for him.
"Guess what, sir?" the clerk said. "I finally sold that
terrible, ugly suit we've had so long!"
"Do you mean that repulsive pink-and-blue
double-breasted thing?" the manager asked.
"That's the one!"
That's great!" the manager cried, "I thought we'd
never get rid of that monstrosity! That had to be the
ugliest suit we've ever had! But tell me. Why is your
hand bandaged?"
"Oh," the clerk replied, "after I sold the guy that suit,
his guide dog bit me."
How many times in life do we have the opportunity to
take advantage of someone who does not know? How
many times can be benefit because the underprivileged
can do nothing about a situation?
As I look back upon my life I see such opportunities
everyday. There is always someone who knows less
on a subject than I and I can either deal with them
honorably or I can take advantage of the situation.
If money were my sole objective, as it is with many, I
would think not twice about taking the opportunity. After
all, I would justify, it was presented to me to use.
People with this attitude rarely, if ever, realize what a
wonderful chance such an opportunity is to grow as a
person. They merely look at such through the selfish
screen of money and move to that drummer.
We are given these opportunities to grow. They present
themselves that we might learn that to live by a higher
standard is much more rewarding than the fruits of
the moment.
Living by a standard that rises above expediency is to
be a strong person with a good reputation, one that
others know about and respect.
Taking advantage of the moment for your sake at the
expense of others is the low road by far. It is for you to
decide. The low road is always cloudy, dark, dingy, not
blessed at all by the real sunshine that casts itself upon
those with high standards they refuse to break.
Take the high road to your bounty and benefit. There
the sun shines bright and greater opportunity awaits.
Be Gracious! Don't Take Unfair Advantage!

Your Immune System: Delicate Yet Critical
How It Serves You And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
PART 1 of 12
Why a carrot is good and a milk chocolate bar is not...
In the following information, I want to describe what the
Immune System is and how it works. Then I'll mention some
situations that can overload it and cause it to be less than
protective and productive. I'll show how it can be brought
back to function adequately. Lastly, I want to show you how
to keep it healthy. As usual this information is for
educational purposes only. If you think of something that
might be happening to you, please check with your doctor or
other health care professional.
Don't diagnose and treat yourself. But do take the time to
read and research. I am including several professional and
trustworthy links for just that purpose. I write these
articles so you can have an intelligent conversation with
your doctor. Not that you are not intelligent, but that you
can ask the right questions and understand the conversation
in a more productive way. If you pay close attention you
will realize that rarely does anyone ever discuss what a
healthy body actually is or needs to stay that way. We take
it for granted that somehow...magically, things appear that
keeps your body in good working order.
I wonder what went through your mind as you read title. Did
this catch your attention? Or are you like I was a few years
ago...thinking this is NOT for me. This is only for
academics and health fanatics. This topic had no interest
for me. I felt I didn't need to know it and didn't want to
spend any time understanding it. It just didn't SEEM to
relate to anything in my life. If someone mentioned "immune
system" or "vitamins" or taking something other than Vitamin
C to protect myself when I had a cold, I had absolutely no
interest.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Being A Long Liver?
Are you one of those we might call a long liver? The term
sounds funny doesn't it? What I am referring to is are you
going to live a long time.
Articles are now beginning to appear showing science,
pension funds, financial planners and a whole host of people
are beginning to worry over the effect of people living
longer.
Apparently the chances of us all seeing 90 years and better
is becoming a real possibility and many, believe it or not,
will live well into their 100's.
I think that is terrific so long as one can remain mobile,
healthy and reasonably independent. Anything less and life
gets to be a real chore.
However, what folks are now worrying about is where will the
money come from? If you planned for what was the "norm" then
your money will likely run out before you die. Then what
will you live on. Clearly some thinking has to go into the
matter. What would happen if you lived so long that
inflation ate up all your savings. For example what would
happen if your property taxes doubled or tripled over a 10
or 20 year period? What would happen if insurances doubled
or tripled? And if you were still driving can you imagine
what automotive insurance would cost you.
Just thinking of medical expenses is enough to make one cry
and the utility bills could be out of sight.
So, one should do some planning to get one's financial house
to a place where you can stand the future. Some prospect,
right?
Personally I find the whole thing exciting. I think our
future will be full of changes - good and bad - and life as
we now know it will change. I think that is enough of a
challenge to keep us healthy unless we worry ourselves to
death. Don't laugh. That is a distinct possibility in
thousands of cases.
That is another reason why I continually harp at you about
finding peace of mind, becoming a peaceful person and going
inside to find and know your Maker. To face the future
successfully will take "being centered" most of the time.
That is what peace is all about. Those who would be here for
the next go 'round will be those who are peaceful people and
that is your responsibility.
Peace is a personal responsibility. It will not come to
governments until the people are peaceful and then peaceful
people, getting elected, can begin to make peace happen. It
starts with YOU. It is your choice. That is why I recommend
you read The Saga Of Pinehill Books I and II. There you will

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Dandelion: How did the "dandelion" get its name?
It comes from the jagged edges of its leaves - which were
supposed to look like a lion's teeth. The French form is
dent de lion - that is, "tooth of the lion".

A not so bright blonde woman had always wanted to travel
abroad. She had saved her money for several years, and
finally had enough for her dream vacation. Until now, she'd
never even been out of the country, so naturally she needed
a passport.
She went to the Passport Office and asked what she needed to
do to get a passport.
"You must take the loyalty oath first," responded the
passport clerk. "Raise your right hand, please."
The blonde raised her right hand.
"Do you swear to defend the Constitution of the United
States against all its enemies, domestic or foreign?"
The Blonde's face turned pale and her voice trembled as she
asked in a small voice, "What.... all on my own?"
