Why is bubble gum pink?

Bubble gum is pink purely by chance. It was the only color
the inventor had left, and now everyone is just used to it!

What exactly is MSG?

MSG, or monosodium glutamate, is a flavor enhancer and a
popular ingredient in Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese
foods. It's actually the sodium salt of glutamic acid, an
amino acid found in seaweed, mushrooms, and wheat gluten.

Are You Leaving Effective Voice Mail?

How can your message avoid the delete button? What is
missing in your message that might get the call returned?

Voice mail is your friend. Do you believe that? Most folks
don't. They are frustrated, annoyed and discouraged when
they are met with an 'automated assistant'. Don't be. Voice
mail IS your friend.

Sure, there are varying opinions, two schools of thought: To
leave or not to leave, that is the question. Some believe
that any contact is a good contact. They always leave voice
mail. Others hang up because they don't want to 'waste' the
contact. What's your opinion? And, what do you do?

Different calls, different answer? Remember, people are
busy, overwhelmed, in fact. Research suggests that an
average business executive gets 350 communiqués each
day--voice mail, email, faxes, pagers, and letters. With
that much 'noise', any excuse to delete seems a valid one.
If your voice mail rambles, or, if it begins without a clear
point, gone!

'Cold calling' may be going the way of the do-do bird! It
has been ruined by telemarketers. Even if you do have a
terrific offer, consumers are so sensitive to sales
calls--even if you do not seem to be reading a script--that
hanging up has become easier and easier for them.

You might remember a day when hanging up on someone was the
height of rudeness. Well, that was in the same day, when
talking over, through, around and under someone was also
considered crass. The persistence and insistence of some
tele-marketers has made hanging up a more viable alternative
than letting loose with what you really think! Folks are
hyper-vigilant to unsolicited connections.

So, if voice mail is your friend, how do you use it to your
advantage?

Voice mail can be straight-forward, full-on marketing. You
have only a few moments to build credibility, leave a clear
message and a call for action or decision. Of course, there
are degrees of effectiveness. Make your messages so
compelling folks have to call you back.

If you are thinking that an effective voice mail is a
predictable one, you're on the wrong track. We live in a
'sound bite, video clip' world. If the message is
predictable, the listener has tuned out. If the message is
all about you, you're toast! Even in the voice mail world,
that old radio station, WIIFM, is still the most popular.
That's "What's In It For Me?" The answer is "whatever the
listener wants/needs to know".

"Sell the benefits." You know that is the key to sales &
marketing. It's the key to effective voice mail as well.
What can you say that will lead the listener to know and
believe that you have something of value for them? Prospects
return calls if you convince them you may have something
they want...and, soon.

Leaving messages for friends and family is a spontaneous
act. Not so at work. You need to prepare your message. Be
ready before you dial.

I know you've received messages that sound as though the
caller was bored to tears. Make sure your messages are
fresh, enthusiastic and energetic. When I am recording
promos or doing voice-overs, I make it a point to stand up
during the taping. Why? My voice is more animated. I even
hold my hands up above my shoulders to increase the
projected energy. Do the same if you have several calls to
make. It will make your message stand out.

Leave short, succinct messages. Arouse their curiosity. That
means not giving them the whole message. It gives then an
enticing reason to return your call.

Step up! Confidently TELL people to call you back rather
than asking them to do so. If that is a big stretch for you,
practice on your friends first. But, do it! It makes a
significant difference in your return rate.

Just a few ideas for making voice mail your friend. Get a
higher return on your time and energy investment.

Your Immune System: Delicate Yet Critical
How It Serves You And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
PART 2 of 12

What changed my mind? I saw the effects of medications on
elderly people, who I thought was drugged into "unreality".
I also watched many people die of diseases at a relatively
young age. I saw many older people go on happily well into
their nineties. I asked myself what the difference could be.

Your personal experiences have very strong ways of
"trapping" your attention, especially if it's your own body
telling you to wake up. Suddenly, hearing about the need to
protect or rebuild your immune system takes on a totally
different meaning.

Suddenly you feel connected. It doesn't sound so unreal any
more. As is so often the case, things don't matter until you
are personally faced with a major and maybe life-threatening
situation for yourself or a loved one. It was at such a
stage, that I was introduced to understanding how
degenerative diseases could be slowed down and what I could
personally do the prevent them.

These days, my life revolves around explaining how the
immune system works, how it has broken down, and why you
really need to keep it healthy. This is not some far off
ethereal, wishy-washy, "tip toe through the tulips" concept.
It is a very practical choice you have to make consciously,
and apply to your health NOW. We have made giant steps in
understanding our bodies: how they die (slowly and
painfully) and how to keep them alive (happily and
healthily). Ponder this...why do some people live healthily
till they die and why so others limp along painfully to a
sad ending? Why wouldn't we all die the same way?

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Threats Again!

North Korea is back at it again today. I really have no idea
what they want but they keep pushing the outside of the
envelope with their nuclear threats. Today they say they are
going to test a nuclear bomb "sometime in the future".

The law "As ye sow, so shall ye reap" is so evident here it
literally slaps you in the face. Anger begets anger. Threat
begets threat. War begets war. Escalation begets escalation.

Man continually moves down a path that is obviously stupid.
And the news media love it, literally love it. Keeping such
stories alive and causing fear in the name of "telling it
like it is" of "informing the public of the truth" is right
at the heart of the medias desires. That is what keeps them
in money and that, after all, is man's objective, right?

At the bottom of all this news of wars and rumors of wars
you will find money as the motive in virtually every aspect.

For example, can you think of the effect on the American
economy if they pulled back their military out of Iraq and
Afghanistan? What if they cut their military in half? The
answer is it would set up a world wide depression from which
we may never recover. It's like trying to find a cure for
cancer. There is an entire infrastructure built around it
and if a cure were to suddenly appear it would have such a
negative impact on the economy we may not recover from that
one either.

Am I saying that somewhere all these things are
orchestrated? I am not sure, but it sure looks like it. It's
the same old story of someone finding a way to dramatically
increase gas mileage and the energy companies buying it up
so it would never be used. I am not saying someone did but
it is a story that circulates every so often.

So what is the net effect of all this? Fear, frustration,
tension, uncertainty, that's what. How can anyone live a
normal peaceful life when everywhere you turn there is
something to be concerned about?

The 1950's were our Camelot years. Then we had no such
concerns as we have today. Then people looked out for one
another, helped one another, and except in areas of known
tensions like the race issues in the southern US, the never
ending Arab/Israeli condition and the Korean war life was
peaceful for most of the world. In fact it was so peaceful
it was nearly romantically so. It was the time portrayed in
motion pictures and magazines.

The only way you can find that kind of peaceful living today
is by going inside yourself and finding peace within you. It
is your own responsibility and will not come to governments
or the world until it comes to you first. That is the law.
That is the way it works. It starts with YOU. It is your
choice. That is why I recommend you read The Saga Of
Pinehill Books I and II. There you will find the way to
peace and prosperity.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Easy As Pie: What is the reason we say os a task thats easy
to perform "that's as easy as pie"?

Because the full expression is, "as easy as eating pie" -
and eating pie is generally considered to be a pleasant
occupation that entails no trouble at all.

HA! HA! HA!

A lion woke up one morning feeling really rowdy and mean.
He went out and cornered a small monkey and roared, "Who is
mightiest of all jungle animals?"

The trembling monkey says, "You are, mighty lion!"

Later, the lion confronts a wildebeast and fiercely bellows,
"Who is the mightiest of all jungle animals?"

The terrified wildebeast stammers, "Oh great lion, you are
by far the mightiest animal in the jungle!"

On a roll now, the lion swaggers up to an elephant and
roars, "Who is the mightiest of all jungle animals?"

Fast as lightning, the elephant snatches up the lion with
his trunk, slams him against a tree half a dozen times,
making the lion feeling like it'd been run over by a safari
wagon.  The elephant then stomped on the lion until it
looked like a corn tortilla and then ambled away.

The lion let out a moan of pain, lifted his head weakly and
hollered after the elephant, "Geez, just because you don't
know the answer, you don't have to get so pissed off!"
