Can wild turkeys fly?

Is it true that domesticated turkeys are so dumb they'll
look up at falling rain until they drown?

Does chocolate contain caffeine?

Yes, but only in small amounts. An ounce of milk chocolate
contains about 6 milligrams of caffeine. That's about the
amount found in decaffeinated coffee.

Is it true that Benjamin Franklin wanted the USA national
bird to be the wild turkey?

Well, why not? The bald eagle is nice, very majestic and
all, but the wild turkey is (as Franklin said), "a true
original native of North America," and was an important food
source for the early settlers. Franklin felt the wild turkey
was "a more respectable Bird," and campaigned for it as the
national symbol of the US.

The first recipe for a lasagna type dish was found to be
from a British cookbook in the 14th century. Therefore,
Italians were not the first ones to come up with the popular

North Korea Will Test H-Bomb’
By Lee Jin-woo

A Korean-Japanese scholar who is considered North Korean
leader Kim Jong-il’s unofficial spokesman said yesterday
that Pyongyang has a hydrogen bomb it would test as part of
a series of actions mentioned in its statement against the
United States.

In an interview with MBC radio, Kim Myong-chol, director of
the Center for Korean-American Peace, a Japan-based
pro-North Korean research agency, said the Stalinist state
is ready to test its H-bomb or conduct a nuclear test larger
than its proclaimed test on Monday.

The North’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement Wednesday
that it would respond with a series of physical measures if
Washington steps up pressure on Pyongyang.

Asked to provide evidence that the North has developed its
own thermonuclear weapons, Kim replied, ``That’s why we are
going to test the bomb. A test will prove that we’ve got
everything necessary just as we had with our nuclear
weapons.’’

Kim blamed the United States and others who question the
authenticity of Monday’s test for suspicions about whether
the North actually possesses nuclear weapons. ``The United
States, which initiated a war in Iraq on groundless claims
of weapons of mass destruction, is raising absurd suspicions
over the North’s nuclear tests,’’ he said.

The North will regard the United Nations resolution imposing
sanctions, whether financial or military, as a declaration
of war, he said.

``If the Bush administration makes more provocations, both
New York City and Tokyo will be blazed,’’ Kim said. He added
the North is targeting the United States but does not want
to wage a war against the South as long as Seoul takes a
neutral position.

Kim said he made his last visit to Pyongyang in January and
has communicated with high-ranking North Korean officials on
a regular basis, claiming that his remarks represent the
ideas of Pyongyang.

``The destiny of the Korean Peninsula will be decided within
a week, and South Korea should maintain its neutral
stance,’’ he said in a KBS radio interview. ``Seoul should
request that Washington not mobilize U.S. Forces Korea
(USFK) even if a war breaks out.’’

The Ministry of Unification, however, downplayed Kim’s
remarks.

``Kim is not trustworthy, and his claims should be
ignored,’’ a ranking ministry official told The Korea Times.
MBC also expressed concern before airing the interview,
which was recorded a few hours before the radio show, asking
its listeners to consider Kim’s remarks as claims by some
North Korean hardliners.

Your Immune System: Delicate Yet Critical
How It Serves You And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
PART 10 of 12

We continue to use antibiotics to "cover" everything. We are
now discovering that this was just adding more problems.
(This is why you should not overdo the use of anti-bacterial
soaps: most people have no real need for them.) Every
chemical going into your body is seen as an enemy: a free
radical.

A majority of the illnesses that afflict us are related to
negative nutritional factors such as inadequate amounts of
the correct nutrients and the unavailability of a complete
and balanced lifestyle in a "friendly" environment. A diet
high in animal fat and cholesterol and low in fiber is
unsuitable. Tobacco/ smoking, excessive alcohol
consumption, excessive exercise, and factors such as
chemical carcinogens, ozone depletion, air pollution,
industrial toxins, also contribute to this negative
environment. They result in oxidative stress. Again, these,
in our very simplistic terms for ease of understanding, are
"free radicals". And without getting too technical,
oxidative stress relates to the number of free radicals and
the inadequate amount of antioxidants to neutralize them. In
other words, the free radicals have outnumbered the
antioxidants.

All these are part of this overload. More "free radicals".
But you have to live... So want can you do? I often mention
the Journal of the American Medical Association report on
the use of nutritional supplementation. If such a
conservative "institution" is supporting the use of
nutritional supplements to reverse and or prevent
degenerative conditions, it really pays to listen.

What can you do to help insure that your immune system can
provide you with health and energy? The answer has many
parts, but it can be described simply. Essentially you will
want to reduce the intake or exposure to anything that
creates free radicals or toxins, and increase whatever
nutrients your body needs to "empower" the Immune System.
It's not quite so simple as many things contribute to both
the positive and the negative side. You can't realistically
sit in your garden and eat lots of carrots, as your body
needs all the elements of a nutritionally balanced diet.
(One of my fondest memories is sitting in a strawberry patch
on Cape Cod as a teenager, eating all the strawberries I
wanted. Instead of getting healthier, I broke out in a rash!
I guess my body was sending a message of "unhealthiness".
Maybe moderation should have been part of my decision.)
Start looking carefully at what you eat and make sure it is
helpful and supportive in your new search for health.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

New Look! And More Threats From North Korea

We have a new look today. I hope you like it. For years, 12
or more, I have been resisting putting the newsletter into
html format. My reasoning was that not all the world has
high speed internet. Today that is rapidly changing and I
have concluded that it is now time for this change.

Html should make your reading easier and faster and I hope
that is what you find. The format is the same and will
remain the same.

On other fronts I see by our Title Article that North Korea
is thinking of setting off even more sophisticated weapons.
That, of course, is no good.

Some say they want direct talks with the US. Both the US and
I can only see them trying to win sanctions from the US,
which, if granted, would only lead to more threats and more
requests for sanctions. It becomes a never ending vicious
circle that cannot be started.

The problem is that none of the participants are prosecuting
peace. Each is selfishly seeking their own ends. China, too,
seeks its own end. They are afraid that if they collapse the
North Korean regime they will end up with millions of
refuges on their borders all seeking aid. In truth that is
what North Korea is now, so I really don't see what the
difference is. What is really happening is this whole scene
is opening the door for China to walk in and rule the
country, which would likely be the best thing in any event.
However, China is no longer into territorial expansion.

The next thing really appears to do what Reagan did in
Libya.

All the while these major events are going on and they care
not that they are leaving their own populations filled with
fear. They seem to be so focused on these embattled world
affairs that none are giving serious consideration to other
major issues, like planning for the day when there is
insufficient food. (See Around The Net in next Friday's
issue ). Note I have concluded there will be insuffient food
supplies, it is no longer in question.

But, peace starts with you and no one else - Peace comes
from inside every person. It is spread with knowledge,
loving, caring and helping. It abhors guns at any
level for any purpose. It abhors arguing and "fighting to
get ahead". It abhors ego driven responses to any condition
but loves and abides by wisdom and decisions made for the
good of others. It comes from inside and it is the
responsibility of every soul to find and promote peace.

Peace and strength comes from inside and one has to work
toward it. If that is what you want then get The Saga of
Pinehill Books I and II. They will show you the way to

Magenta: Why is the color magenta called that?

The color got its name from the Battle of Magenta, fought in

named to commemorate the battle.

HA! HA! HA!

A woman opened the door of a building and was about to step
outside when she heard a voice saying, "Don't take that next
step or you'll regret it." She paused and a brick came
crashing to the pavement right where she would have been
standing. She looked around and there was no one nearby.

The next day this woman was about to step into the street
when she heard this same voice say, "Don't take that next
step or you'll regret it." As she paused a truck came racing
by and smashed into a nearby vehicle. She knew if she hadn't
listened to that voice she would have been hurt badly, or
 maybe even killed.

She looked behind her and there was no one nearby. "All
right," she said , "Who are you ?" "I'm your guardian
angel," the voice replied.  "Oh, if that's the case," the
woman said, "Where were you on my wedding day?"
