Why was the Great Wall built?

The wall was built to protect ancient China from marauding
tribes from the north. It actually started out as many
different walls thrown up for protection by different
States. The individual sections weren't connected until the
Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). The emperor of that time, Qin Shi
(called "the First Emperor"), conscripted peasants,
convicts, enemies, and anyone else who was unemployed to
work on the wall. The work lasted for centuries. The wall
served its protective purpose well. Only when a dynasty was
weakened from within were outsiders able to conquer China.
The Mongols and the Manchurians were not stopped by the wall
only because the governments of China at those times were
weak and the people poverty-stricken and rebellious.

Is it true you can see the Great Wall of China from the
moon?

Legend has long held that the Great Wall is the only manmade
construction visible from the moon. Actually, NO manmade
construction is visible from that far.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW™ ... with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
------------------------------------

Congestion And Clutter Or Prosperity?

Have you ever felt like you were getting a cold? Your head
felt heavy as well as your eyelids. Your throat was scratchy
and your limbs were heavy. You felt like you were walking
through peanut butter. Familiar? Sure.

One thing I have learned is that when I feel that way, the
first thing I had better do is look for the places in my
home, office or life where there is congestion. And, clean
them up!

Does that sound strange to you? Try it.

Sure, sometimes a cold is a healing crisis. Sometimes,
congestion is caused by a virus or bacteria or simply too
much sugar. And, often, it is remedied by removing
congestion from your life!

Where are you ‘congested’? Prosperity comes through
circulation. What are you hoarding? You might think that
‘hoarding’ is a harsh word for hanging on to things you
don’t use, don’t like or don’t find beautiful. But that’s
what you’re doing. And, guess what? When you are hoarding,
prosperity eludes you.

Think of it this way: I give you a ten dollar bill and I
ask you to hang on to it tightly with both hands. You do
that to the point of exhaustion but yet you persist. Now, I
come along with a hundred dollar bill and I want to hand it
to you. But, you are so busy squeezing the ten dollar bill
that you cannot take the hundred dollar bill. That’s the
problem, you see.

When you’re hanging on to things, you have no room for more
to come into your life. Circulation is the key. Let things
go. Make room. You know that nature abhors a vacuum. Create
one and clearly state what you would like to come rushing in
to fill it. This is the key to prosperity.

Think about houses. You buy a piece of land and you have a
house built. It costs you $200,000. You have a wonderful
house on a lovely acre beautifully landscaped and you enjoy
it immensely. At the same time that you are enjoying your
house, the builder, the mason, the plumber, the electrician,
the landscaper are all enjoying their part of your $200,000.
That’s circulation.

And, there’s more! Not only have you circulated your money,
but, you still have your house. Which is appreciating and
creating more prosperity to circulate!

Prosperity is about much more than money. Prosperity is ‘the
condition of being successful or thriving’. Therefore, you
can be enjoying prosperity in your health, your
relationships, your career, your learning, your joy, your
happiness…and, your money. Does that sound good to you?

Start by letting go. What are you squeezing so tightly that
there is no room for something better, something more
satisfying, something more abundant? Pry your fingers off it
and let it go.

Clearly see what it is that you would like to come into your
life as you release what no longer serves you. Visualize
your goal in all its details and give it a name.

The other day I was speaking to a large group of civilians
at a military base. The topic was about not letting your
past determine or limit your present or future. Many times
we do that, have you noticed? It’s important to know right
down to your toes that you are not limited by what has
happened to you. You are only limited by what you think!

I suggested to that audience that they rush home and buy a
new book to write in. On the front, I asked them to put this
title, “What I Want’, and to write down in great detail
everything they would like to bring into their lives. No
limitation: character traits, relationships, possessions,
goals, money, love, peace, beauty, anything at all. Then,
I asked them to see themselves enjoying it fully. It’s
important to make a very rich picture, so rich, in fact,
that they could feel the feelings they would experience when
their visions become reality.

You can do that, too. Start such a book and capture your
dreams. You deserve to have what you most want. Declare it
by making it real on the page. Then, step into it in your
mind.

Clarity is the first step. When you can articulate what you
want, you are living by approach. When you can’t, it’s
likely that you’re living by avoidance. You are simply
moving away from what you do not like. That’s not
satisfying. You’ll begin to feel like a billiard ball being
pushed around and banking off things. Take charge.

Know what you want. Write it down.

Open your fists and release what you’ve been hanging on to.
Let go. Your prosperity can only come into an open, empty
hand.

Oh, and by the way, get rid of the clutter and congestion.
It’s blocking the flow of prosperity to you

A&P Anatomy And Physiology
PART 5 of 11
The Make Up Of Your Body And How It Functions

Your body's very basic unit is the cell and every cell has a
purpose or a function. The definition of a cell is "the
fundamental unit of all living tissue". For our purpose of
general explanation, each cell has a nucleus (the leader)
cytoplasm, in which the nucleus lives and a cell wall. There
are many other types of cells, but this one definition works
for us. So every part of your body is a cell. Nothing that
is in you is NOT a cell of some type. And these cells
perform different activities. Similar cells arrange
themselves in groups and are then called tissue. And tissue
is described as a collection of similar cells acting
together to perform a particular function. Nerve cells carry
messages to the brain. Connective tissue holds different
parts together. Muscle tissue creates all sorts of padding,
and epithelial tissue holds your body in a nice shape via
your skin. Of course, there are many more combinations.

One kidney cell is pretty ineffective, but millions of them
can keep you alive. Same for brain cells. All this similar
tissue together is now called an organ (a very important
member of society is an organ donor. The generosity of such
a gift will change the course of another person's life.) And
in grouping these organs together, you now have systems. In
essence, you are one tiny cell many times multiplied into
ten systems.

We won't get too technical, but just know that each of us
has these cells and that's the anatomy of the body: the make
up of the structures. Interestingly, people come in
different colours and races, but underneath we are all the
same. Same structures. Same organs. Same tissue. Same
systems. Same brain cells. But we seek out relationships
that make us comfortable: where we feel accepted. The same
happens with the organs and their tissue. All organs that
deal with feeding or elimination of waste production are
grouped into the Gastrointestinal or Digestive system.
Anything to do with the blood or the heart is combined and
called the Cardiovascular system. The eight other systems
are Urinary, Respiratory, Muscular, Skeletal, (often linked
together as Musculoskeletal) Endocrine, Integumentary,
Nervous, and Reproductive. So from a single cell, we have
now established a living person.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Peace Is Your Only Hope!

Well life gets interesting - don’t it?

As I read the news I begin to observe patterns of life and
living that man is doing around the earth. It is plain to
see there is no comprehensive plan to help man survive.
Instead there is the rush to gain, the need of greed to
succeed, the win at all costs attitudes in the never ending
game of oneupsmanship.

I am afraid man has already done a number on this earth and
that doomsday predictions will actually come to pass. In
fact I believe those predictions are now unavoidable.

Let me give you just a couple examples.

First, the world is no longer able to produce all the food
it needs. To make that point even more problematic the
population continues to increase while lands on which food
crops are grown are decreasing. You don’t have to believe me
on these points. It is very simple to check them out.

Second, greenhouse gases that cause global warming have a 30
year lag time in causing just that effect. Moreover the
effects of global warming are coming upon us much more
rapidly than first predicted. Things are happening in an
exponential way rather than on a straight line basis. That
means that as fast as these things are coming upon us they
will, in fact, speed up and happen even faster.

Third, as hard as scientists are trying to sound the warning
bell, governments are not paying attention. They are so
preoccupied with wars, “positioning” and “posturing” that
they have no plans to ease the situation other than come up
with woefully inadequate legislation to appease some of the
more aggressive worriers.

Now we find there is pressure on all natural species. With
man’s activities we find man has caused 30 percent drop in
natural populations on earth. For example there are 30
percent fewer polar bears, or any other species you can
name, with the exception of man.

And the world seems to be going merrily along as if there
were no such thing as a problem. Most really do not want to
see.

What I would like to know is what plans does local
government have to deal with the future that will happen in
your area? I suspect you might want to know that too. Ask
and keep asking. I know you will sound like a broken record,
just like I do in the writing of these articles. Yet it is
important.

And it is extremely important you prosecute for peace. It is
terribly important you seek peace within your own life for
that alone will give you a chance at survival.

Probably the single most important thing you can do for you
and your family is to find a way to peace of mind,
stillness, being calm. When you do that you have
great strength with which you can lead your family and be an
example to your neighbors. Peace comes from within and has
to be worked on before one finds the formula.

prosperity within your own life.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Palace: Where did we get the word "palace"?

From Rome - for the word originally meant a dwelling on the
"Palatine" Hill in Rome. Augustus built his home there -
and so did Tiberius and Nero.

Boys and Girls
---------------
"Equal" is not always synonymous with "the same." Men and
women are created equal. But, boys and girls are not born
the same.

1. You throw a little girl a ball, and it will hit her in
the nose. You throw a little boy a ball, and he will try to
catch it. Then it will hit him in the nose.

2. You dress your little girl in her Easter Sunday best, and
she'll look just as pretty when you finally make it to
church an hour later. You dress a boy in his Easter Sunday
best, and he'll somehow find every mud puddle from your home
to the church, even if you're driving there.

3. Boys' rooms are usually messy. Girls' rooms are usually
messy, except it's a good smelling mess.

4. A baby girl will pick up a stick and look in wonderment
at what nature has made. A baby boy will pick up a stick and
turn it into a gun.

5. When girls play with Barbie and Ken dolls, they like to
dress them up and play house with them. When boys play with
Barbie and Ken dolls, they like to tear off their
appendages.

6. Boys couldn't care less if their hair is unruly. If their
bangs got cut a quarter-inch too short, girls would rather
lock themselves in their room for two weeks than be seen in
public.

7. Baby girls find mommy's makeup and almost instintively
start painting their face. Baby boys find mommy's makeup and
almost instinctively start painting the walls.

8. If a girl accidently burps, she will be embarrassed. If a
boy accidently burps, he will follow it with a dozen fake
belches.

9. Boys grow their fingernails long because because they're
too lazy to cut them. Girls grow their fingernails long -
not because they look nice - but because they can dig them
into a boys arm.

10. Girls are attracted to boys, even at an early age. At an
early age, boys are attracted to dirt.

11. By the age of 6, boys will stop giving their dad kisses.
By the age of 6, girls will stop giving their dad kisses
unless he bribes them with candy.

12. Most baby girls talk before boys do. Before boys talk,
they learn how to make machine-gun noises.

13. Girls will cry if someone dies in a movie. Boys will cry
if you turn off the VCR after they've watched "Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie three times in a row.

14. Girls turn into women. Boys turn into bigger boys.
