Microsoft Tunes in to Digital Music
In a reversal from its previous position of simply supplying the
software to support companies that sold digital music, Microsoft
will launch its own online digital music store this week. The
new music store will come out at the same time as Microsoft's
Windows Media Player 10, an application the brand's music
service will rely on extensively. Industry analysts speculate
that Microsoft's move into the digital music arena is a response
to the success Apple has experienced with iTunes, and the
possibility that iTunes will become the hub of a multimedia
entertainment network, a project Microsoft has been setting
its sights on for a while.
Humor Tops Presidential Candidates Online
According to the comScore Media Metrix analysis of consumer
Internet behavior, JibJab.com, site of the online streaming
video that uses Woody Guthrie's classic song, "This Land is
Your Land," to satirize both John Kerry and George Bush,
reached more visitors in July than the candidates' sites
combined. Exactly 10.4 million unique visitors clicked to
JibJab.com in July 2004. That's over three times the 3.3 million
Americans who collectively visited JohnKerry.com and
GeorgeWBush.com.

Audit Bureau Asks Tech Publisher to Reclassify Some Subs

Tuesday, August 31, 2004
The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) has completed an
audit of publisher Ziff Davis' PC Magazine, confirming that a
small portion of the tech title's subscriptions must be
reclassified. Significantly, the ABC found nothing wrong
with the integrity of the magazine's subscriber list.
The audit, which examined the book's 2002 and 2003 ABC
publisher's statements, expanded on a July 12 ruling that
required Ziff to reclassify some subscriptions as "analyzed
non-paid direct request" rather than "paid."
At the time of that ruling, Ziff Davis was considering an appeal.
With the audit announcement, that was a dead issue. "There
is no appeal," said Tim Castelli, senior vice president and
group publisher of Ziff Davis Media. "We are cooperating fully."
Ziff had been considering contesting the ABC's findings
based on the belief that the subscriptions in question
belonged in the "paid" category. However, these
subscriptions, which had been acquired through a
third-party agent, had not been paid for in a timely fashion,
according to ABC rules, in which subscriptions must be paid
within seven months to qualify. Hence the reclassification.
"This is all related to the agent and timely receipt of
payment," said Castelli, adding, "This is simply just a
reclassification. It's really a technical issue. It doesn't
change anything about the quality of the subscriptions. We
have data on these folks."

The Natural And The Unnatural

In the last 30 years, there has been tremendous research into
the nutrition. Many degenerative conditions have been found to
have part of their origin in depleted nutrition. That doesn't
mean no nutrition. It means poor quality of the items eaten or
inappropriate or absent nutrients. We have learned so much about
free radicals and the benefits of antioxidants and the balance
that the body needs. No one should be in the dark about
nutrition and degenerative conditions. We should not still be
tolerating this information to the extent that we are. But by
understanding the basic cell nutrition (cellular nutrition) you
can easily see how just a few "un-natural " things can alter
your life. Not sure of the names to research? Go out and enjoy a
cup of tea or coffee and take ONE package of the sweeteners or
go to your supermarket, with a pen and paper, and copy down the
names of the artificial sweeteners. (Get your children to do
this as a research project for you: not their class.) The whole
purpose of this article is to get you to think about things you
put into your body. The good and the not so good. Now you have a
choice. We are all very aware of mad cow disease now. I am quite
disturbed that we didn't know cows/beef are fed these kinds of
chemical additives, and these foods. That doesn't sound very
"natural" to me. Now grain fed beef takes on more definition and
importance! I know milk has additives, as do breads and cereals.
But I only recently learned about "genetically-altered" foods.
Do I have a choice? Did anyone ask me if I wanted fluoride in my
drinking water? I loved BBQd foods till I learned about the
carcinogens provided by the cooking process. There are many,
many chemicals added to our foods and often we don't know about
them. Here you have a chance to make a conscious choice. Do you
or don't you add this artificial sweetener? Or could you cut
back on the "real" stuff? Or try stevia or Xylitol? And often
it's not the individual chemicals, but the combinations that are
harmful. Although I am a nurse, I wouldn't have a clue as to how
one chemical would react with another. So please choose
"artificial" carefully. I have to leave you with a fun story
after all this negative stuff! And this has to do with
"natural". I live on the beautiful West Coast of Canada on the
Pacific Ocean. And we have our share of "secluded" beaches. Last
week, the major "discreet" path to this "special" beach was
blocked...with debris from an exploding outhouse! Seems like the
build up of "natural" methane gas caused this very unpleasant
surprise. So who needs "artificial" when nature can do it's own
fireworks!!!

"Your mother told me what happened after
school today. Don't you think you owe her an
apology?"
"For what? For controlling my life based on
incorrect information and being to damn stubborn
to even look into it to see what lies it contains?
She stood up and again was on her way to her room.
"You come back her young lady. You have no
call to sass me like that. You get back her right
now." The demand came.
Sharon kept right on going and slammed her
door shut, then locked it. She was in no mood to
talk to anyone who was so stupid as to not look
into something to find the truth about it.
There was a loud knock on her door. "You let
me in there Sharon." Her father was demanding and
becoming angrier by the minute. He banged on the
door, then kicked it.
Sharon could hear her mother outside the door
telling her father to stop. The pair of them were
now fighting. She reminded him of how the pair of
them had to get together. "Leave her alone. We'll
talk when things cool down some. Let her be."
That talk went on for quite a while. He banged
on the door again, getting more angry by the
minute.
Sharon got up and quietly opened the door only
to receive his fist right in her face. He was
striking at a door that wasn't there. He got her
right in the nose. She fell flat on her back,
blood spraying everywhere. Her mother rushed in to
help. Then her father rushed in apologizing.
"Get away from me, both of you. I'll take care
of myself. I don't need your love if this is what
it looks like. Get away." Sharon pushed her mother
away, then her father, all the while in pain and
in tears.
She struggled to get up, her Mother trying to help
her. Sharon pushed her away. "GET OUT."
She closed the door behind them and locked it. Her
power was based on their guilty conscience for
having done this.
How could a situation go this far? How can
things get out of hand so quickly. How can people
allow their tempers to do these things? Those and
other questions were going through Sharon's mind.
Then she thought of Tim. She told him what had
happened.
Tim was instantly in her room. The pair of them
whispered.
One look at Sharon and Tim knew what had
happened. He gently reached to her and pulled
her to him. Then, looking into her eyes, broadcasting
love, he waved his hand in front of her. She was
instantly whole again, and clean. She had no blood
on her. Her nose was no longer bleeding. She had
no pain, except in her heart.
Tim also cleaned up the floor. He then sent
some thoughts to Sharon. "We must not speak or
someone will hear us. I will send thoughts to you
and you can send thoughts to me. That way we can
communicate."
"Yes, I can do that. Oh! It's nice to see you.
Thank you for coming." She grabbed him and held
him and began to sob on his shoulder.
Tim held her, calmly. "You lost your cool
didn't you? You began to get angry because your
Mom, who did worse than you, is now preventing you
from seeing me?"
"Yes."
"It is time for you and I to discuss the most
important law of your life. 'As ye sow, so shall
ye reap.' All things in earth are controlled by
this law. It means that what you give you shall
receive. You lost your temper with your elders and
it promoted within them a similar reaction, only
stronger. You lost."
"I know. Big time. That punch on my nose hurt.
Thank you for cleaning up and for making my nose
better. Are you saying that if I had not lost my
temper things would have been different?"
"That's a loaded question, Sharon. Of course
things would have been different because the
people in the conversation would have reacted
differently. The point for you to understand is
that if you had reacted calmly, in spite of what
your innards wanted, then you would not have
promoted the loss of temper in others. You must
always act calm and with love - ALWAYS. You do
that and no one will have cause to come against
you. Fight and what do you expect people will do?"
"I don't know, fight I guess."
"Of course they will fight. That is what you
are asking them to do just by adopting the
fighting stance yourself. It is you who controls
what happens to you. If you don't want a fight,
then don't take up the posture, don't say the
wordsin anger, don't adopt the attitude. You can
still say the same words calmly and with love and,
believe me, your results will be much different."
"That makes sense, but it's hard."
"Only for a little while. Your insides will be
wanting you to fight. They will be telling you
silly and stupid things like this person or that
person is offending your pride. Likely the most
ridiculous thing in the world is to let one's
pride prevent reasonable conversation and
communication. Think on it for a while. So your
pride is hurt. What does that mean? It only means
that according to your present interpretation of
the circumstances someone doesn't think very
highly of you, that's all. Does that hurt?
Certainly not, and it is only temporary. Acting
with calm and love will always allow you to shoot
straight through any conversation right up to the
point where you want it to go. That attitude will
always gain you more ground than any other."
