For a short period, yes. In 1968, legislators changed the
date of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October, but it
was changed BACK to November 11 a decade later
because Americans wanted it that way. The November 11
date was too significant to be overlooked.
Is there more than one solider in the Tomb of the
Unknown Solider in Arlington National Cemetery?
An unknown American soldier from World War I was buried
in Arlington National Cemetery in 1921 (on November 11,
of course). In 1958, on Memorial Day, two more unknown
American soldiers, one from World War II and one from the
Korean war, were buried alongside the first soldier. An
unknown soldier from the Vietnam war wasn't buried in the
tomb until 1984 (eleven years after a law was passed
enabling a Vietnam soldier to be buried there). It took that
long to find a soldier that couldn't be identified. Improved
technology had made it easier to identify remains. In fact,
the Vietnam soldier WAS later identified. In 1998, DNA testing
proved he was a 24-year-old Air Force pilot named
Michael Blassie who was shot down in 1972. His family
disinterred the body and had it reburied in St. Louis, Missouri.

Ever Get Cornered?

Moses and his flock arrive at the sea, with the Egyptians in
hot pursuit.
Moses calls a staff meeting.
Moses: Well, how are we going to get across the sea? We need
a fast solution. The Egyptians are close behind us.
The General of the Armies: Normally, I'd recommend that we
build a pontoon bridge to carry us across. But there's not
enough time - the Egyptians are too close.
The Admiral of the Navy: Normally, I'd recommend that we
build barges to carry us across. But time is too short.
Moses: Does anyone have a solution?
Just then, his Public Relations man raises his hand.
Moses: You! You have a solution?
The PR Man: No, but I can promise you this: If you can find
a way out of this one, I can get you two or three pages in
the Old Testament.
Funny isn't it. There's always a PR man around but he doesn't
solve the problem. I get a kick out of the quick witted. I
appreciate their sense of humor. Yet Moses had a problem,
according to this joke.
It appears as if he had worked himself into a corner. Now
where does he go? Have you ever done that? Have you
ever found out you neglected to think things through and
when questioned about them found more questions than
you can or want to answer because you know you had
not been thorough?
Or have you ever walked into a situation where you found
yourself in a responsible position but have not yet found
all the answers yourself?
Wow! What do you do? Maybe we should all throw up
our hands in the air, like Moses.
May I suggest honesty in this situation? It will always get
you further ahead than any other course of action. People
may not like what you tell them but that is infinitely better
to them and for them than any stalling, lying or trying to
avoid the issue. People will respect your integrity, they
will abhor your falsehoods. Face the music head on
and be a straight shooter. That will get you respect,
results and another chance. Fail to take this approach
and you will pay the price.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
Your Hope And Your Vision...Is The
Agenda You Are Following Your Own
Or Someone Else's? Recognizing
A Major Stressor In Your Life
PART 1 of 7
What do YOU really want to do? A few days ago I
had a very long conversation with a friend, Sandy,
who admitted to being a Type A personality. As a
controller, she confessed to the need to be
perfect! She was used to telling everyone what
they needed to do and how, and then to check on
everyone's progress! Granted it was a family
business, but now, here she was, totally burnt
out. And because it was a family business, there
was no one to take over.
She and her husband (luckily they had a firm and
healthy relationship) seldom had days off, had
never taken holidays, never had any time to
themselves collectively or alone, and certainly
had never booked any time away even for a few
hours. Household errands were fitted between work
activities as were house chores. Their business
was seasonal, but any down time was reserved for
preparing for the next busy period. Their children
were capable of helping, but Sandy felt she had to
check their work, so eventually they didn't do
much. "Mom can do it better".
I asked her if that was what she really wanted to
do. She didn't, but felt it was now expected of
her. As far as the clients were concerned, Sandy
felt she owed them perfection...whether they were
nice to her or not! At what cost, I asked...her
health! Her stress level was enormous! Their hours
of operation are 10 AM to 8 PM, but their clients
can come early and late, and would be welcomed.
"They just dropped by". And incidentally that's
one of the things they feel creates their success.
But I sensed from Sandy's words that she wasn't
completely sold on this success. It was simply
expected. For 25 years she has rushed around doing
things for others, either at home or in their
business. And usually in the same time frame as
their business is at their home. She has nattered
at her husband, telling him she can't keep up this
pace but, she does...everyday! She can't delegate
and she doesn't have help...in case it's not
perfect. On top of all of that, she makes a
variety of meals every day to satisfy different
preferences.
Sandy called because I was a safe, objective,
caring friend and I was thousands of miles away!
She also knew I might recognize some danger
signals to her health. As I listened to her, just
as you are reading this, I became more and more
anxious and uptight. As I listened, I could feel
my heart racing! I felt anxious and a bit out of
control! I told MYSELF to relax several times!

All these thoughts were rolling around in
Sharon's head. "You make it sound easy."
"I didn't say it was easy. I said it is the
way to get the results you want. Sure it takes
training. Sure you have to overcome yourself. Yet
you should always ask yourself before you begin
any conversation, 'What do I want out of this?'
Every conversation can be useful, purposeful. In
truth, that is what living by higher law is all
about, controlling yourself to a point where you
permit the power of your Maker, from within, to
shine forth."
"Oh, Tim. I think I'm falling in love with
you. You always make me feel better. I can see
what you are saying. I will try."
"Here is something else. Did you ever stop to
think that your deep inner self brought you to
this point so you could learn this lesson? Maybe
it was right for you to fight, this time, so you
could clearly see what happens when people react
to you. If you can see, then it should sponsor
change in the way you conduct yourself, all to
your very own betterment. That is the lesson here
and if you learn it then you will likely never be
faced with it again. Your inner self, your Maker
within, always presents you with circumstances
through which you can learn. As you do, you grow.
As you grow, you eventually come to the point
where you live by higher law."
"Is that what you are showing me? Higher law?
Is that all this is about? Do you think I was led
here by my Maker to start the lessons?"
"Certainly. Whether you take advantage of the
lessons or not is your choice. You can ignorantly
go on fighting as in man's world or you can learn
the steps to greater power by learning the lessons
your Maker has led you to."
"How come we aren't taught that. When you
explain it everything becomes so clear. Why can't
I or other men and women see that?"
"Mostly because you are all caught up in your
emotions and don't want to see. Mostly you just
want to fight back. Nothing in your life happens
without there being a lesson in it somewhere. All
you need do is to look for it. Living by higher
law is only the commitment to learn these lessons.
Eventually you come to understand your Maker
within is leading you to living by the laws that
are available to all mankind. The more you steer
away from what your emotional reactions tell you
to do, the more you stop and think clearly,
realizing the law 'As ye sow, so shall ye reap'
then the more you are living by higher law. It is
your Maker's way."
"Is that all there is to it?" Sharon was no
longer holding him and sobbing on his shoulder.
She was deeply involved in this "mental"
conversation. She was seeing, maybe for the first
time in her life, some of the things her Maker was
trying to show her. That this was true thrilled
her down to her core. That she had been chosen to
learn, rocked her being. That she could learn
higher law and live it struck her with such force
she then and there became a different woman.
"No, there is more, but we will talk on those
things later. What matters now is that you allow
this lesson to sink so deeply into your psyche
that it is permanently embedded. You want this new
way to be your reaction to all new circumstances
so your emotions no longer control you, but you
control you. When that is done you will find your
entire life going better."
She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.
"I love you."
All this conversation had gone on in their
minds. They had not wanted to create any noise
that would bring her folks around.
"Sharon, I want you to have time to think
about these things. Let me leave for tonight, at
least for now, and you spend time absorbing these
thoughts. Lie down and think about them, with love
in your heart. If someone comes to get you, be
calm. If they want to talk with you, be calm. If
anything happens to make you angry, be calm.
Remember to be calm in all circumstances, and to
deliver love to those with whom you speak. That
way all will listen, and you will gain the respect
of all. You will also find many answers coming
from inside, when you are calm. That is when you
can begin to follow the leadings that come from
within. Practice it for a while and it will change
your life."
Tim rose to leave. Sharon jumped up and put
her arms around him. She suddenly realized she
would be alone again, and that he was leaving. She
ground herself into him and kissed him a full wet
and sloppy kiss. Tim couldn't help responding and
his body was letting her know what his thoughts
were. She pressed the more. "Oh! Tim. Touch me"
she breathed. Her moans were nearly loud enough to
bring in unwanted company.
Tim caressed her and then stepped back.
"Remember, be calm. You can reach me when you want
me." Then he vanished.
