Lead People On... But With Love!

Ron just got a new sports car and was out for a drive when
he cut off a truck driver. The trucker motioned for Ron to
pull over. When he did, the driver got out of his truck and
pulled a piece of chalk from his pocket. He drew a circle
on the road and told Ron to stand in the circle and not move.
He then went to Ron's new car and cut up the leather seats.
When the truck driver turned around Ron had a slight grin
on his face.
"Oh, you think that's funny?" the trucker asked, "Watch this."
He got a baseball bat out of his truck and broke every
window in the car.
When he turned and looked Ron had a smile on his face.
This drove the driver into a rage. He got his knife back
out and sliced all the tires. Now Ron was laughing. The
truck driver really started to lose it. He went back to his truck
and got a can of gas, poured it on the sports car and set it
on fire. He turned around and Ron was laughing so hard
he almost fell down.
"What's so funny?" The truck driver asked him.
Ron replied, "When you weren't looking, I stepped outside
the circle 4 times."
As I read this joke I couldn't help but feel that surely,
somehow the car was not his, maybe the trucker's, anybody
else's but surely not his. Then when I got to the punch line,
I knew I'd been had. The author led me on to a ridiculous
conclusion. Of course that's the stuff jokes are made
of, right?
I, for one, don't like being led on like that. It might be okay
in a joke, and there I expect it, but I don't like it in life's
situations. I suspect you don't either.
Too often I've been led on only to find the person I was
following had his/her own agenda, that my interests, or
the interests of others were very far from their heart,
although the signs were much to the contrary.
I know this happens every day, everywhere. I know that
so long as you have people who follow you then you are
leading them. Do this with love, for love will ensure you
respect their condition, desires and life.
Some, especially military, situations people think that to
lead with love is ridiculous. Some think that all present
know the objective and that each had better perform, or
else. While that may be true, that attitude is hardly
leadership, far from it. A leader points out the objective,
ensures all present know it, then helps them achieve it,
leaving no man behind. That is leadership with love.
Love does not mean you must have an emotional
relationship with all present. Love means you conduct
yourself with the welfare of others in mind. If you lead
this way you will find your results happen faster,
better, easier.

Or Someone Else's? Recognizing
A Major Stressor In Your Life

I have personally conquered the need to be
perfect. I have learned that I needed to give up
the compulsion to control others. I no longer
expect perfection from myself. I eventually had to
let go of all controls except my own. I knew Sandy
would discover her own conclusions, but I would
share my experiences with her. I didn't live in
her shoes and what worked for me might not work
for her, but she needed some understanding and
some other ideas.
One of my own struggles has always been the
perception of work division. It seems pretty
lopsided to me. My question is...is this a gender
issue or a control personality issue?
Personally, I had never felt adequate enough:
never felt I could take a break. There was always
another thing to finish ...or start. But until I
really took stock of myself, I didn't realise I
was living someone else's agenda: not my own goals
or dreams. I just did what I thought everyone else
did! I know women are known as multitaskers...but
is that because of necessity or is that a
behavior? I honestly don't know. I used to see
"multitasking" as a positive skillset, but I don't
any longer. I don't know the "mindset" of a man,
but I do know Type A personalities inside out. It
WAS me! It's very hard to change. You do it
because things need to be done, and people like
you for what you do...and it helps them. (But it
doesn't help them grow up and take over their own
responsibility.) However, in the long run, it's
not helpful to anyone. It almost takes a
monumental catastrophe to shake you awake and
aware!
So my usual plan, in conversation where there are
no easy answers, is to "interrupt" the person.
Then I steer the conversation to a different yet
related topic. I knew Sandy couldn't continue as
she was reliving her frustrations right in front
of me with a great deal of emotion. (This reminded
me so much of myself!) Gratefully I have learned
to cope differently and I will share some of those
techniques. I asked Sandy to tell me, what she
felt worked for her as to coping skills either at
work or their home life. What things had she
learned that makes things easier. We all learn
these as survival tools.

Sharon Smithson had changed. She did not yet
recognize it but that blow to the nose and the
subsequent information she had received from Tim
sank into her psyche hard and fast. She was
finding the method of transmittal of that
knowledge was an enormous confidence builder and
was leading her into realms she never thought
possible.
That she and Tim could communicate by thought
astounded her. That it was part of living by
higher law excited her, even beyond the blood
coursing emotions of love that had been flowing
through her veins. Yes, she liked that and wanted
it, but now, this new realization had captured her
imagination so strongly it was the focal point of
her thinking.
Sharon knew that from now on she was in
control of her and that she would never again be
involved in argumentative situations like she had
just come through. She knew that by her attitude
she could control conversations and that she could
begin to educate her folks on her desires and
capabilities. She knew she could now begin to
persuade their trust.
That made Sharon happy beyond happy. It
instilled a level of knowing that shook her. It
was as if she were now superior to her parents.
While she knew that was not true, that is the
sense of it. She also knew, because Tim had warned
her, that she must conduct all conversations with
love, with a genuine interest in the welfare of
those she was speaking with. It gave her a jump in
maturity beyond what she had seen in anyone else,
save Tim, and she was absorbing these thoughts and
feelings thoroughly.
Having a genuine interest in the welfare of
those you were speaking with did not by any means
suggest that you had to do what they wanted. It
meant that you had to be aware of the best things
for your audience. Sometimes people think that
what they want is the best thing for them, hence
the universal desire for wealth. Yet it is clear
that people's desires may be the furthest thing
from being the best thing for them. It can be
summed up in the sentence, "If you give a man a
fish, he will eat for a day, but if you teach him
how to fish he will eat for a lifetime." Most
people don't want to learn how to fish, but that
is far better for them than simply receiving with
their hand out all the time.
Sharon knew that. She could, this moment, see
with a clarity that had eluded her before. Her
thinking was now as if she had walked into
brilliant sunshine from the bowels of darkness and
depression. She had not before experienced this
uplifting of thought and feeling.
She concluded that if this was truth she
wanted more of it. She knew that life as she had
known it before felt good but this was like she
had been lifted to another level. She did not
pretend she knew higher law. She knew, however,
that is what she wanted to the exclusion of all
else.
Then she began to realize that this euphoric
position had to be melded with the life she lived
in the flesh, every day. She realized she had to
go out and face her parents. She knew she had to
continue school. She knew these things yet she
wanted to be with Tim and she wanted to learn
higher law. What was she going to do? How could
she reconcile her desires with her present
situation?
Those are the kind of thoughts we all must
face as we grow into new knowledge, especially
spiritual knowledge. Even a person who is
dedicated to becoming a rich person, without any
spiritual knowledge, has to make choices that will
take them away from the group he/she is presently
associating with. We all must make choices that
will govern our lives and will take us from
current associates. Having this new spiritual
knowledge made Sharon aware these types of
changes were in her future. She began to look.
First she saw herself in her new dealings with
her parents. That was suddenly not hard for
Sharon. It became clear to her and she knew the
outcome even before it began. Then there was the
matter of continuing school. She would do that if
only to prevent further problems with her folks
for it was, after all, only two more months. She
knew in her mind she would pass all her grades
with real good marks.
Then there was the matter of her relationship
with her friends at school. That was going to
change. Indeed, because of her going with Tim this
last week, it had changed already. She knew she
would freely talk with all of them, but to her it
was no longer necessary she be a part of that
group.
Then it came crashing into her head. That is
what her Maker meant. "Live in this world but be
not of it." That is what she must do. While she
will be around and with others she now knew she
must listen to the voice from within, not the
jabber she would be involved with from without.
