The 99 Percent Rule

It's Friday night, you're sitting at a restaurant, and as your
meal arrives, the server says, "Now, don't touch that plate. It's
hot." What's the first thing you do?
Well, 99% of the time you're going to touch that plate, right?
I call it the 99% rule. It's closer to 100%, but I give myself a
little "out" for those who wish to find a loophole in it.
After years of studying human behavior, I've come up with a few
of these 99% rules that I wish to share with you today. Looking
for these common denominators in everyday conversation will help
you read between the lines more quickly.
When someone starts a sentence with it's not, they're usually
trying to tell you what something really is without hurting your
feelings.
When someone starts a sentence with I don't, they're trying to
direct you without hurting your feelings.
Here are some examples of the first rule in action.
When they say, "It's not you, it's me," they're trying to tell
you that it is you. (Since I date quite a bit, I hear this one
quite often!)
When they say, "It's not that you're too short," they're trying
to tell you that they think you are too short.
When they say, "It's not that I have a drinking problem," what
probably comes out of their mouth next is a story about how they
drank too much.
Get the picture? But please don't take my word for this. Listen
for yourself. It will amaze you.
Here's how I use the 99% rule in everyday activity to help me cut
to the chase and find out what's really on someone's mind. Let's
say a salesperson comes into my office and begins his sentence
with, "It's not that we're trying to raise money, we're simply
trying to help you gain a new product line for your corporation."
Now, whatever comes out of his mouth next doesn't really make a
difference, because I know by using the 99% rule that he really
wants to raise money. So I would interrupt him mid-sentence and
say, "Listen, you need money, and I could use the product. Forget
the five dollars that you want for each unit. I'll save us both
time and give you what you could really use: two dollars each. Do
you want it?"
You see, once you master listening to what people are actually
trying to tell you, it puts you in control and it can save a lot
of heartache in the long run.
The other example I mentioned was the phrase I don't. When
someone starts a sentence with I don't, the 99% rule tells you
that they're actually trying to direct you without hurting your
feelings. Here are some examples.
"I don't want to tell you how to raise your children, but . . ."
"I don't want to tell you how to drive, but . . ."
"I don't want you to take my side, but . . ."
See what I mean?
Now go out and use this information for yourself. Try it out with
your friends, business associates, and dates. They'll be amazed
at how well you can read them, and you'll look like a star by
simply using and applying the 99% rule.

Your Liver: Understanding Its Functions
And Your Role In Maintaining Its Health

Cirrhosis of the liver is the result of multiple
fibroids or scarring. (When a cell dies and this
process becomes extensive, it ends up as scarring.) Due
to this extensive viral attack on the liver, your liver
will have problems carrying out its job. The blood is
unable to flow correctly through the liver and is not
properly cleaned or restored by the liver cells.
Signs and symptoms include jaundice (yellow tinge to
your skin), fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and
vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, dark urine
(dark yellow), diarrhea, and distinctive white or
clay-colored stools. These could be attributed to many
things. It usually takes a long time for these to
occur.
As you would expect, symptoms that are apparent because
of an unhealthy liver condition would be reflected in
the function that is "disabled". Here are a couple of
examples. If the blood isn't circulating adequately, it
won't provide the body with red (oxygen carrying) blood
cells and adequate nutrients: hence you would be really
tired.
If something is interfering with bile metabolism, you
would be seeing a yellowish colour on your skin and on
the whites of your eyes. Your skin would also probably
feel very itchy (bile salts). If something is
interfering with nutrient absorption and filtering,
your stools may change colour, and you would certainly
be very fatigued.
Once you show some signs or symptoms, or suspect you
have a possible problem, testing as ordered by your
medical practitioner has to come next. Testing pertains
to liver "functions". Lab Tests Online has some good

kitchen to prepare serving the meal.
"Sharon tells me a lot about you Tim. She says
you took her down to South America last night, and
that you had supper there. I told her it was not
possible, but I didn't go into it further. We had
a rather bad night here the other night and I
don't want another one of those, so I didn't argue
the point."
"She is right, Bob. We did go to South
America. We stopped in at the home of friends of
ours, the Pietro's in Matto Grosso. I can imagine
it must sound very far fetched when I say that but
I think, if you are willing to hear what happens,
I might be able to show you. I know about the
fight the other night and the reasons for it. I am
sorry to have been a part of what started it."
"I bet Sharon told you about it. That kind of
thing can happen in the best of families. I'm
sorry for it too. We, my wife and I, are having
quite a time adjusting to the idea of meeting you
Tim. As you know there are those in this city who
speak against you."
"Yes, I know, and from time to time we come up
against it. We are not evil Bob. Neither are we of
the devil. Do you have a bible handy?"
Surprised, Bob Smithson said, "Yes, do you
want me to get it?"
"Would you please? I'd like to show you a few
things and maybe I can put your mind to rest.
Bob Smithson went to get his bible. Upon his
return he gave it to Tim. Tim turned to Matthew 6:
verses 19 to 34.
"Here, Bob. Please take the time right now to
read this." Tim handed Bob the bible.
"I recognize this. This is the Sermon On The
Mount."
"I'm sure you do recognize it. I'm equally
sure you have read it many times, but I am asking
you to read every word in verses 19 through 34.
I'll wait."
Bob looked at Tim as if he was crazy. Then he
could see that Tim was serious. He began
reading. When done he looked up and was going to
open his mouth and speak.
Tim held up his hand. "I already know what you
are going to say. Let me speak. If you were a
Catholic you have been told that the church alone
can interpret God's word. Even though you took all
the english words that are used in that text, in
grade school, and you can understand what each
means in any other context, you are told you have
no power of understanding what that means when
they are written in the bible. Preposterous, but
that is what they teach. If you are not a Catholic
but a member of some Protestant religion then it
is for sure you have been or will be told that you
are not to read this passage as if Jesus was
speaking to you. He was apparently speaking to
some form of superhuman in each disciple and that
he was not speaking to you, that somehow these
words are not for you. Now, consider, God
puportedly made all men equal but somehow these
men are more equal than others?"
"I...I guess I never thought about that. We're
Protestant, by the way. What are you saying to
me?"
"I'm asking you to consider two points. Jesus
was on a mission. He wanted to teach others what
he had learned. So he was speaking to twelve men
he had picked. These were no special men in any
way. They were common men, like you and I, doing
the things you and I do. Jesus was teaching them,
and it is written in our bible so he can teach us.
That's point one. The second point is that what
Jesus is saying here appears unrealistic, on the
surface. So now we have a decision to make. We
either believe Jesus or we don't. If we don't
believe him then we must think of him as a liar.
So the second point is do you believe Jesus or do
you think he is a liar?"
"I believe him."
"Then are you doing what he taught?"
"I think so.
"Are you taking no thought for your life? Or
for your body, or for food or drink?"
"What do you mean?"
"Just what I said. I notice you still go out
to work. Why?"
"So I can earn money to feed, clothe and
shelter my family, that 's why. Do you think you
aren't going to do that?"
"Mr. Smithson, do you have reptiles in this
house?"
"Of course not. Why?"
"What is that snake doing at your feet?"
Bob looked down at a harmless garter snake
coiled up at his feet. "Where did that thing come
from?" He was about to get up and get rid of the
snake.

This was one busy day. I left the house at eight A.M. and did

Idiot Stories -- Bungling British Thief
A bungling British thief left fingerprints in a car he stole
but also something more helpful to police -- a photograph
of himself breaking into the vehicle. Lee Hosken broke
into the car with a screwdriver and found a camera in the
glove compartment. He let his girlfriend photograph him
as he searched the car and posed outside his home
brandishing the screwdriver he used for the break-in.
Later he dumped the car - and left the camera inside.
The owner of the car, Matthew Holden, was dumbfounded
when he had the film developed a week later.
"I was looking through the pictures when suddenly I saw
my car and some bloke in it with a screwdriver in his hand.
When I showed the police they recognized him straight
away," newspapers quoted him as saying. Hosken was
sentenced to a two-year driving ban and two years probation.
"We are very grateful to this man for making his own arrest
so easy. He quite literally put himself in the frame for his
own crime," a police spokesman said.
