--------------
What vice president was indicted for murder?
Aaron Burr, vice president under Thomas Jefferson, was
indicted for the murder of Alexander Hamilton in a duel. Burr
was never tried for murder in court. However, he was later
tried for treason for allegedly attempting to form a new
republic in the southwest. He was acquitted.
Was Abraham Lincoln successful in politics before
becoming president?
Not really. Before winning the presidency, Lincoln ran for
his state legislature, the House of Representatives, the
Senate (twice!) and vice president. He lost all those
elections.

Internet Users Would Rather Give Up TV Than Web
By Kate Kaye Contributing Writer
Wednesday, September 22, 2004
Add to My ListInternet users between the ages of 18 and
54 found that they prefer the Internet to more traditional
media, including television, according to survey results
announced yesterday by the Online Publishers Association.
When asked which media they'd choose to use if they
could pick only two, the majority of study respondents
chose the Internet (45.6 percent) and television
(34.6 percent) as their first choices. More than 50 percent
of 18- to-24-year-olds picked the Internet as their first
choice, compared to 28.5 percent who chose television.
Pervasiveness and familiarity with the Internet are what's
causing the integration of the Web into the lives of this
younger generation, said OPA President Michael Zimbalist.
He said younger people believe that "with the Internet,
I have whatever I'm looking for, wherever I am."
The national survey, conducted online by
Frank N. Magid Associates' Surveysonline.com, studied
media usage and attitudes among three age groups:
18- to-24-year-olds, 25- to-34-year-olds, and
35- to-54-year-olds.
The study revealed that all generations surveyed share
similar attitudes toward the increasingly adopted medium.
For instance, more than 70 percent of all participants
consider the time spent using the Internet to be an important
part of their day, and more than 70 percent use the Internet
to keep up with topics of interest as well as for entertainment
purposes. More than 60 percent of all those studied believe
that Internet content provides them with useful information
about products and services.

Microsoft radio venture gives DJs pause
Tuesday, September 21, 2004 Posted: 1400 GMT
(2200 HKT)
SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- Fans of the Seattle music
pop station Kiss 106.1 FM usually have to sit through an
array of disc-jockey antics and advertising between
listening to favorite artists like Avril Levigne and
Ashlee Simpson.
But not anymore. As part of its much-touted new MSN
Music offering, Microsoft Corp. is testing a Web-based
radio service that mimics nearly 1,000 local radio
stations, allowing users to hear a version of their favorite
radio station with far fewer interruptions.
It's a move analysts say is annoying, but not seriously
threatening, the stations.
"Because it's a beta and because it's Webcasting, it's
not yet considered a tremendously important competitor
to radio," said Brida Connolly, technology editor at the
Los Angeles trade publication Radio & Records. "At
this stage it's considered more of an irritation."
The service also poses no serious problems yet
because most people still listen to commercial radio in
their cars and Internet broadcasting is still in its infancy,
analysts say. But they warn that the service could be
a harbinger of more competitive online threats to come.
For $30 a year or $5 per month, Microsoft's service -- which
is still in early testing -- will deliver the songs without
commercial interruption. The free service includes ads
but no DJs.
Microsoft builds its versions of the local stations by licensing
playlists from the various local radio stations through
Nielsen Broadcast Data System, an independent group
that tracks commercial airplay.
The Redmond, Wash. software titan's feed differs slightly
because the company must adher to different rules on
what can be played on the Web and is barred from playing
songs for which it has not independently secured rights.

Find The Courage To Be Yourself, Make
Your Own Decisions, and Reduce Stress
PART 1 of 7
I spend a lot of time working with people with vertigo,
dizziness, and hearing problems especially tinnitus.
Through phone conversations, I find people telling me
that they have been told that their condition is often
caused or made worse by stress. If the condition isnt
enough already, this guilt is a little too much. I hear
this for many other conditions as well. Stress seems to
be an easy out as a diagnosis, but it puts tremendous
pressure on the already overburdened person. The person
is then given a prescription for an antidepressant and
told to find ways to deal with your stress.
I get very frustrated with this advice
and I imagine
the person to whom it is said, does too. Lately I have
been helping people unravel this thinking. One of my
first questions usually is is this really what you
think its from? Or whats your gut feeling? If it is
really all caused by stress, where does that leave you?
If it isnt, who will help you find the cause? I
challenge you to be on an antidepressant and work
productively with dizziness and tinnitus. If you dont
want another drug you have to find the courage and
determination to refuse. If you dont want to take
drugs, why do your let people talk you into it? You
need to determine whose body it is and who does it
belong to. If you are questioning anything, you are
entitled to an explanation, but you dont have to take
it as absolute truth. You may choose to do your own
research. Stop and think if this is the best for you.
To get to this point of confidence and belief, you have
got to figure out who you are and what you want. As
with all my information, please use it for educational
purposes only. It is meant to make you aware of your
own capabilities.
Personally, I always feel people do their best. They
ask questions or seek help as needed. 99% of the time,
they can cope. And it figures that in dealing with
stress, its the same. (I am secretly amazed how well
people do in these situations!) What I find myself
doing a lot lately is helping people find out how they
can function better when they do ask for help. I try to
help them find ways to develop some courage, trust, and
belief in their own thinking.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
The day was a warm one, although cloudy. The
fields were green with crop and the jungles beyond
were lush from the steady flow of rains this area
received. The rains were unique here. One might
refer to them as 'dry' rains. The heat of the days
and the land was such that when it rained it was
absorbed immediately, leaving not much wet. It
took a good two or three days of steady rain to
end up with mud on the roads and even then, with
the reappearance of the sun, they would dry up
fast.
"I sense some changes in the towns folk, Shing
Li, since the last time we were here. There seems
to be a peace amongst them. I like that. It means
life can be easier and happier for them."
"That is true. Since you were last here they
have come to be more relaxed and loving toward one
another. That talk you gave them about their
trying to get this house and about sharing and
loving must have worked. Since you left they have
nearly all been her to eat of the food from the
'magic box'. I gave them food willingly and
lovingly and somehow they have all come to be
kinder, gentler and calmer. They come to talk and
often they speak of you and Susan. They will all
be happy to see you when you go to town."
"That is good. I am glad. I will go down to
the village a little later. Tell me something, can
you see a meal for me that we might eat as a snack
until suppertime comes along?"
"What do you mean, Miss Mae?"
"I mean, if you were going to go to your
'magic box' expecting to see some food that you
might serve us for a tea or a mid-afternoon snack,
can you now, in your mind's eye, see that food?"
Mae had distracted her attention and was now going
to show her how to manifest food.
"Yes. I can see what it is I would serve you.
Are you hungry?"
"Yes, but I don't want you to go to your
'magic box'. I want you to hold out your hands and
see the food in your hands, on a palm leaf or
something to hold the food. Can you do that?"
"I...I think so." Shing Li closed her eyes and
held our her hands. Nothing happened.
"Shing Li, I want you to think as you do when
you go to your 'magic box'. Expect to see the food
in your hands just as you expect to have the food
when you go to your 'magic box'."
This time Shing Li did expect and was rewarded
by her belief. There in her hands was a large palm
leaf upon which was prepared food she had
envisioned.
"Wonderful. You see, there is nothing to it.
It does not need a 'magic box' at all. Come with
me."
Mae walked back into the house and into the
kitchen area. Spotting the 'magic box' she held
out her hands, palms toward the 'magic box' and in
that instant the box disappeared. "You will no
longer need that box. You can now manifest all the
food you need or want when you want it. That means
even if you have to feed thousands."
"Bu...but what if I cannot do this thing?"
Shing Li had become quite used to using the box
as a crutch. Now she would be on her own, no
'magic box'.
"Shing Li, stop. Did you not just now do this?
Did you not just now manifest a snack for us to
eat? Having done that why would you doubt now.
Here, let's eat what you just manifested."
They went out onto the porch again and sat
down, camp fire style, to eat the snack she had
prepared. Soon they were out.
"Shing Li, I would like some more. Would you
please get some for me?" Mae's words were more
like a command.
Shing Li stopped. She looked at Mae. She was
nervous. Now she was on her own and she knew it.
She also knew she had manifested food earlier and
that there was no reason, except her doubts, why
she should not be able to manifest food again. She
closed her eyes and saw herself approaching her
'magic box'. She felt the same way, inside, as she
used to feel when she did that. She 'knew' the
food would be there. Upon opening her eyes she saw
more of the snack food on the palm leaf.
"The next time you do that I want you to
'know' you can do it. You no longer need your
'magic box'. You were right in what you did. You
must 'know' the thing you want to manifest is
there, and it will be so. That same knowing will
permit you to manifest anything you need or want.
For example, I see you have a partially finished
garment over there. Why don't you see it as
completely finished, ready to deliver to the one
for whom it is intended."
Shing Li closed her eyes and 'saw the garment
finished'. She then went over to pick it up, and
there it was, complete.
"Do you know what is happening, Shing Li? Mae
now knew she could talk with Shing Li about the
underlying principles of manifestation. She knew
she could speak to her of the full ramifications
of the law, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap."

Today is more fall work around the house. Over the past

wood is a lot of wood. I will finish my daily chores here,
on the box, then get at the outside stuff.

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't
it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted,
cowboys deranged, models deposed (and eventually disfigured)
and dry cleaners depressed?
Laundry workers could decrease, eventually becoming
depressed and depleted! Even more, bedmakers will be
debunked, baseball players will be debased, landscapers
will be deflowered, bulldozer operators will be degraded,
organ donors will be delivered, the BVD company will be
debriefed, and even musical composers will eventually
decompose. As a student, I spent all my time wishing to
be detested and degraded.
On a more positive note though, perhaps we can hope
politicians will be devoted.
