TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
Was the original Thanksgiving in November?
Did they eat turkey and pies?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How did George Washington want to be addressed?
George Washington, the first US president, thought it
might be nice for ordinary citizens to address him as
"His Mightiness, the President." But that didn't fly really
well with a nation that had just gotten rid of ONE king
and didn't want to sound like they were addressing
another. They liked second president John Adam's
idea even less. He suggested "His Highness,
President of the United States and Protector of
Their Liberties." By the time Thomas Jefferson came
along, simple old "Mr. President" became the standard.
When was the first Thanksgiving celebrated?
The autumn harvest feast enjoyed by the Pilgrims
and the Wampanoag Indians that everyone thinks of
as the first Thanksgiving was in 1621. But it wasn't the
start of a tradition (the participants didn't repeat it the
next year) and the Pilgrims wouldn't have considered
it a "Thanksgiving." To them, a "thanksgiving" was a
religious event in which they would attend church and
thank God for a specific event. They often prayed and
fasted. On such a day, there would be no secular fun,
such as games, as there was at the feast in 1621.

If You Haven't Been There Don't Knock It!
by Ken Darby
While I was dining out with my children, a man came over
to our table, and we started talking.
He asked where my kids go to school. I told him we
home-schooled them.
With a raised eyebrow, he asked if my husband is the
sole breadwinner for our family.
I said, "No, I also work ... out of our home."
Then, noticing our two-month-old son, he mentioned that
his daughter had just had a baby, and he wondered what
hospital our son was born in.
"He was born at home," I answered.
The man looked at me, then said, "Wow, you don't get out
much, do you?"
It's easy to put down things that appear to you to be
different. The "Wow, you don't get out much, do you?"
statement is a complete admission of lack of
understanding.
Why shouldn't she home - teach her children, if that is
what she wants? Why shouldn't she go to work to help
support the family if that is what she wants or needs? Why
shouldn't she give birth to her children at home, if that is
what she wants?
It is highly unlikely I would ever be involved in any of these
things. However, I will fight to the death for this woman's
right to do these things. It does not matter if I understand
them. Maybe I never will. Yet this person has a right to do
these things and because I don't understand them in no
way makes them less legitimate.
There is the old adage that one should walk a mile in the
next man's shoes before he is prepared to judge him. Not
bad advice.
A long time ago I knew a man whose favorite saying was
"A man is always down on what he's not up on." I think
my friend is right. We are too quick to judge those things
we do not understand. If we take time to understand and
see, then we accept. It would be a good thing just to accept
first, before judgment, then go learn about it. Surprise
folks with an element of trust. Show them it is fine with
you that they do what they are doing, even if you don't
understand it.
The problem with passing judgment is that judgment is
what will come back to you. If there is not need to pass
judgment - don't. Many a new and wonderful thing has
come out way because there are those who dare to be
different. Accept it, embrace it, protect their rights to be
that way. You just never know when you will run into
something that will be of huge advantage to you.

Find The Courage To Be Yourself, Make
Your Own Decisions, and Reduce Stress
PART 2 of 7
At some points in our lives, and many times they can
occur all in one day, we are all leaders, students,
parents, children, mentors, etc. But none of this will
really provide the required confidence until you figure
out just who you are supposed to be in life. If this
sounds like New Age mutterings, it is not. It is simply
common sense. You are not your spouse, your son or
daughter, your boss, your friend, your neighbor or
anyone else. You are YOU. There isnt another person in
the entire universe like you. You are an entity all of
your own
with likes, dislikes, skills, and abilities:
thoughts and feelings. They make you the human who is
meant to contribute to society.
So in these conversations I ask questions that help
them relax. They can think about things that make them
feel better: things they are comfortable with. Things
they are knowledgeable about. Things that help lead
them to discovering the purpose of them being here.
It is most enjoyable once they catch on to their own
personality. It is a very freeing experience! Lets do
that here. You are not me and I am not you. So its
crucial to figure out yourself who you are. Because
until you know your personality, everyone else will
tell you what to do! Sound familiar?
There is a wonderful author named Bob Proctor
http://www.bobproctor.com who has some very inspiring
and practical ways to help you figure this out. He has
a workbook in which you can inch your way through to a
total picture of yourself that makes sense and feels
right for you. Once you understand yourself, you
somehow naturally gain some courage to be a little more
assertive. You find the courage to think for yourself
and not be so completely taken over by others
that
means to be controlled by others.
Incidentally, if you ask the other person if they
really mean to control you, they would deny it
vehemently! Most people will say its for your own
good. But I know from many instances, the fact you are
no longer going to be the other persons go-getter or
amenable to their requests, ends up in change...for
everyone. And those changes are a bit of a challenge.
You may be planning for these but others are faced with
unwanted changes. Lets take some examples
your
co-worker want you to do a little extra work so they
can go home early. If you now decline (with thanks),
you know it will cause a bit of a rift. If your boss
asks the same, it might become quite difficult. If your
teacher suggests you should help others more after
class and you decline, its equally problematic. In
each case you are very vulnerable because you have
always been willing to do their bidding. They were not
ready for the change.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
A couple days went by without too much more
conversation on the matter. Shing Li was taken up
with manifesting the meals for the group. She
wasn't even keen on going anywhere, preferring
instead to think of these things.
Mae watched her thinking closely. She was
always stopping to "look into Shing Li's mind."
Shing Li was working her own way through the
events of the last couple days, gaining confidence
as she went. It would not be long before Mae would
once more be speaking with her.
"You know what I would like to do today? I
would like to go down to Sjong Ju to see Reno and
Amenti. How would all of you like to come?" Mae
wanted a diversion for the day and something for
both Shing Li and Psong to think about.
The response was unanimous. All were in favor,
although Shing Li and Psong did not know where
Sjong Ju was or who Reno and Amenti were. They
simply trusted Mae that all would be well.
"Take my hand" Mae directed Shing Li and
Psong. Susan took Tlang and Wong Li while Psong,
as usual, had little Tsung on her hip.
They arrived on the road in front of the
orphanage.
"Wow! Where are we?" Shing Li was surprised at
the sudden change in scenery, not fully expecting
to have travelled as she had. This was all new to
her for such travelling was not even discussed
with her.
Similarly, Psong was surprised and was just
about to ask when there was a noise in front of
them.
"Mae, Susan!" Reno was running toward them
from the orphanage. Amenti was close behind. There
were hugs and kisses between Mae, Susan and Reno
and Amenti. The two from the orphanage were very
happy to have company.
"We haven't seen you for so long. How are you?
Come to think of it we haven't seen anyone of our
old friends for a long time. Here, come in to our
humble place and tell us all about yourselves."
Reno could hardly keep from talking, she was that
excited.
"We'll come in but first Reno, Amenti, I want
you to meet Shing Li and her two children, Wong Li
and Tsung. This is Psong and this young lady is
Tlang." Mae made the introductions.
Within a fraction of a second both Reno and
Amenti knew the complete story of the lives of
each to whom they were just introduced. "Welcome
to out orphanage. Please come in and see what we
do here."
Amenti led the way and the group casually
chatted and walked along. The kids at the
orphanage were quite interested in the visitors.
It had been a long while since they had seen
someone other than passers by.
They walked into the orphanage. Reno
introduced the company to the kids.
Mae looked around and found things pretty much
organized like the orphanage back in Matto Grosso.
"Oh, much like home, right?"
"Oh, Mae. Sure it is. We organized the place
just like Riata did back home. It worked well and
it does here too. We are having no trouble with
the kids, and each does his or her duty in their
time. The system, works well. We have even set up
a security system like the one back home. The only
thing different here is that there is no shrine.
Unlike the difficulty Riata had with city
officials back home, we have had no visits from
any authority here, and don't expect any."
"That's good. It is clear you are doing a fine
job here. Keep it up." Susan was impressed. She
had never been to the shrine or orphanage in Matto
Grosso, so she had nothing to compare the work
with.
Mae had been there and could see the
comparisons immediately. "I sense you miss the
kids you used to live with. And Riata for that
matter. Don't worry. I'm sure they will come. They
are undoubtedly busy as you. All you need do is
send out an invitation. You know that."
"Yes we know that, and we haven't because we
have truly been busy. Yet it is good to see you
and just seeing you reminds us of old times, so I
guess it could be said we were fine until you
came." Reno laughed. "It'll be all right. Thank
you for coming. Can I get you something to eat, or
a beverage?"
They all sat and had a light lunch. The kids
from the orphanage all gathered around and
listened to the conversations that followed. There
had been no visitors and these were obviously
foreigners, at least some of them. As they
listened they heard how Reno and Amenti were long
time friends with Mae and Susan. They chatted
about how Mae and Sue met Shing Li and Psong. And
they chatted about how the orphanage is going.
