that high needed servants to lean on when they walked!
Why would women wear such shoes? Wouldn't they

Of course. Chopines seriously restricted a woman's
movements. But today's shoes for women have a lot lacking
in the comfort department too. The vast majority of patients
visiting podiatrists (foot doctors) are women and often the
problem can be traced to shoes, particularly high
heeled shoes.

How to Really Benefit from Associations (Part II of III):
"Tips For Improved Networking in Associations"

TIPS FOR IMPROVED NETWORKING IN ASSOCIATIONS
1. Give people a break - - as much as possible! Association
folks are just as busy or more so than any other business
people. Many are doing double-duty with volunteer work
on top of their regularly paid work everyday. So, for example,
if someone said they?d call & didn?t, open your next call to
that person with something like, ?You?ve probably been
super busy, so I just wanted to touch base for a sec?.?
2. Membership Directory ? Two words: USE IT. Call people
from it, email them, send them postcards. Jot notes in the
margins. Write notes from meetings & other group events
in the margins to help describe members; like: ?the gent
with the cowboy hat who sat next to me.?
3. Participate ? join in discussions, introduce yourself at
meetings, ask questions, etc. Don?t leave all the ?thinking
and planning? up to the Board members. Share any
resources, suggestions and ideas that you have that may
help group members.
4. Reach Out - Not only volunteer, but reach out to fellow
group members. Everyone goes through job stress, family
situations, ?bad hair? days, etc. Don?t just be a ?good time?
friend or contact only.
5. Lemons into Lemonade ? Reach out; make lemonade
out of lemons. For example, don?t be a gossip. It?s easy
in a group situation to get caught up in an issue and be
opposed to another member. Remember to be fair and
allow others to voice their opinions. You don?t always
have to agree with everyone. And you won?t. But disagree
in an agreeable manner. For example, if someone else's
idea is voted in instead of yours, don?t cop an attitude
& drop out or quit the group. Give the other person's idea
a try and maybe write up a report on it for a future
presentation and include your suggestions for
improvements.
Note: If you did happen to mess up and inadvertently
cop an attitude and insult someone or something, take
a time out. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off,
apologize / make amends and move on. No one is perfect.
And no one expects you to be. Kindness and apologies
are always welcome. That ?Do Unto Others? Golden Rule
works wonders and is appreciated in groups worldwide,
regardless of the industry.
6. Grow / Joint Ventures (JVs) ? Generally groups have
a Nationwide affiliation and affiliations with other
states / regions. Get involved (slow and steady) with
their overall concerns. And stay abreast of their issues
when possible. Reach out to the other affiliations and
network, too. They often offer educational and other
industry opportunities, and often with an outlook that
can enhance your own, coming from another point of
view. When possible, seek joint venture (JV)
opportunities.
JV tips:
Don't be afraid to ask.
Put your request in writing (for the general public, unless
you?re in a hi-tech field).
Treat your request like a proposal & include past work
you've done in this field, samples, references, additional
resources, your credentials, etc. with your request.
Prepackage info into autoresponders

Be flexible. For example, others may have already
asked similarly, so you might be offered a ?group? project
instead. Or maybe a Board member has a totally different
idea but with your same guidelines, so maybe you could
slant your proposal a little differently.

Reaching a Board-approved? decision can take awhile
to get through channels. So sit tight and touch base
every once in awhile.
No? doesn?t mean forever. Maybe your idea could work
next quarter or next year. Or maybe your proposal could
be altered and resubmitted. No?s are not personal in
nature. So treat them like regular business proposals
and follow up for feedback and suggestions. Maybe
there is something else you could do that would be a
much better fit.

by Stephen R. Covey. And focus on Habit #5, ?Seek
First to Understand, then to be Understood.?
Keep up. Keep educating yourself and your helpers. For

Find The Courage To Be Yourself, Make

Ground rules are similar to boundaries in that you have
consciously chosen to make a part of your life. I give
myself some important ground rules as I do new things I
want to accomplish. For instance, quitting is NOT an
option! If I can’t figure how to do something, someone
on this earth does. I’ll find that person. I also allow
myself to make mistakes as long as someone can correct
them for me. Until then I feel very unsettled and
frustrated. I now recognize those signals and know what
I have to do. You will too. Note them as they are
“natural” guides. I also allow myself not to be
perfect for a while after I get going. And I don’t
allow anyone to tell me I can’t do whatever I want to
do. I make sure I get proper information and or
equipment. What is interesting as you grow with this
process you find that people get out of your way. If
they do offer advice, listen politely and secretly look
to see what they themselves do...not what they say.
Respectfully thank them, and draw your own conclusions.
If you apply this to any part of your life (including
your finances…especially your finances!), you will find
ways to manage your life in a much more relaxed and
worthwhile manner. By finding the courage to be
yourself, your decisions will give you a feeling of
control and energy.
What I am I trying to suggest here is that you can be
your own self. You need to defend your ground rules
once you determine what they are. It takes a lot of
courage at the beginning until people realise you are
serious and determined. Make a strong, conscious
decision to take control of those activities or
attitudes that are within your possibilities. Ask
questions with the intention of doing more research. I
think you would be nicely surprised at what you can
accomplish. And it all starts with a decision. Start
with small things. Don’t take on the medical profession
or your teachers until you can debate a bit more
confidently! This might be more stressful for you at
the start, but eventually, this is an amazing way to
become healthier and definitely happier. For many of
us, short term stress is simply a way to draw attention
to things that need to be examined. Long term stress is
harmful, but armed with this information on how to be
yourself, few things end up being so difficult hat you
can’t find a way around them. Happy Landings!

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.

Mae and Shing Li moved to half way up the
ridge. Mae turned and faced downhill. She
broadcast love unto all below. The horses
immediately whinnied, raised up on their hind legs
and were attempting to bolt down the valley. It
was all the riders could do to manage them. This
continued for as long as Mae kept up the sending
of love unto them all.
Before long it became clear to the remaining
attackers they were not going to succeed. They got
off their animals and did what they could to help
their comrades. Several were dead but there were
many more with broken bones, open wounds and in
much pain.
Mae now made herself visible and began to walk
down the slope. She caused an aura, a shield, to
be placed around both her and Shing Li. If one of
the attackers thought he would shoot them the
shield would cause the projectile to ricochet
directly back to the attacker that shot. Mae,
because of practice, was fearless in her approach
to the attackers. Shing Li was not quite so
fearless, for this was her first time. "Shing Li
try to remove boulders and dirty clothing from
open wounds. Then wash them up using water from
that stream. Using higher law, see the man as
complete, and always broadcast love, speak with
love, touch with love, heal with love."
Mae did likewise. Many animals were dead,
wounded, and in pain. Mae treated them with the
same fervour as she served the humans. These
animals were the life savers of these people. They
had to have as many as they could.
Up on the ridge the people from the small
village were still under fire from the snipers who
were not aware the fighting was over. Abetta
worked as well as she might, but the people were
offering no assistance, being afraid of being
shot.
Riata moved up the slopes as if by levitation.
She had placed a shield around herself and allowed
herself to be quite visible to each sniper, one by
one. She, too, broadcast love unto all she found.
To see a women hovering in the air in front of
them scared most of the snipers. It was an
apparition they had not seen before, neither
expected. Some dropped their weapons and got on
their knees immediately. Still others took the
fight or flight route. Some aimed their rifles at
her, threatening. She merely bent back the front
of the barrel so it appeared to be aimed back at
the shooter. Only one pulled the trigger. The gun
blew up in his face causing a bad burn, and some
blindness in one eye.
It took Riata nearly 20 minutes to get to all
the snipers, so work on the ridge was delayed
until the people were sure there would be no more
gunfire. Within five minutes of having no more
gunfire the rain of stones and boulders ceased as
well. The battle was over. Now the work began.
Mae called Riata to come help down below. She
asked Riata to bring with her some of the
villagers. This Riata did. All were women.
As the village women approached the attackers
they were still afraid. Riata broadcast love and
told them that to love one's enemy was the safest
and surest way to defeat them. Now was the time
for these women to show their mercy and come to
the aid of the wounded. The concept was foreign to
the women, however they did pitch in. The day was
fast disappearing and they had hardly begun.
Mae and Riata caused light to remain, as if it
were still daylight. No one noticed. They were
either too busy or too hurt.
Shing Li was taking note of these things. She
wanted to talk with Mae when they were next free.
Soon the men came back to the village from the
upper walls of the canyon. Abetta's work was
proceeding much better than the work down in the
valley. There were only five dead. There were none
left with wounds.
The snipers, most having discarded their
rifles, were now trying to descend the cliffs. The
trip down seemed much worse than the climb had
been.
Soon Abetta was able to persuade some of the
village men and women to join her in attending to
the wounded among the attackers. With reluctance
they came.
One look and each of them could tell the
attackers had received the worst of it. There was
mangled flesh of horse and man wherever they
looked. Among the attackers there were 15 dead
plus six to ten animals. The smell was terrible
and would be worse before they were done.
Insects set upon the decaying flesh
immediately, as did all other normal happenings in
such situations.

Tired of being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a
young husband decides to solve both problems by taking
out a large insurance policy on his wife, with himself as
beneficiary, and arranging to have her killed.
A "friend of a friend" put him in touch with a nefarious underworld
figure that went by the name of "Artie." Artie explained to the
husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse
was $5,000.
The husband said he was willing to pay that amount but he
wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his
wife's insurance money. Artie insisted on being paid something
up front. The man opened up his wallet, displaying a single
dollar bill that rested inside.
Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept
the dollar as down payment for the dirty deed.
A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife into the local
Safeway grocery store. There he surprised her in the produce
department and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved
hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath
and slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce
department stumbled onto the scene.
Unwilling to leave any witnesses behind, Artie had no choice
but to strangle the produce manager as well. Unknown to Artie,
the entire proceedings was captured by hidden cameras and
observed by the store's security guard, who immediately
called the police.
Artie was caught and arrested before he could leave the store.
Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed
the sordid plan, including his financial arrangements with the
hapless husband. And that is why the next day in the
newspaper, the headlines declared:
(You're going to hate me for this)
