TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
How did the British royal family ever get a German surname
in the first place?
Could a future monarch again change the royal name?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What is "Chicago amnesia"?
"Chicago amnesia," a phrase coined by Dion O'Banion (a gang
leader in the 1920s), referred to the tendency of
eyewitnesses testifying against gang members to "forget"
what they had seen (no doubt as the result of gang
intimidation).
Is it true that the British royal family takes its last name
from a castle?
You might think that Windsor Castle was named for the
Windsors, but actually it's the other way around. The
surname of the British royal family USED to be
Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. But in 1917, King George V changed the
name to Windsor, the name of his castle. Why? To protest
Germany's role in World War I, King George decided to
renounce all German-sounding titles.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------
The Hope In Man Amazes Me ...
Two old friends met one day after many years. One attended
college, and now was very successful. The other had not
attended college and never had much ambition.
The successful one said, "How has everything been going with
you?"
"Well, one day I opened the Bible at random, and dropped my
finger on a word and it was oil. So, I invested in oil, and
boy, did the oil wells gush. Then another day I dropped my
finger on another word and it was gold. So, I invested in
gold and those mines really produced. Now, I'm as rich as
Rockefeller."
The successful friend was so impressed that he rushed to his
hotel, grabbed a Gideon Bible, flipped it open, and dropped
his finger on a page. He opened his eyes and his finger
rested on the words, "Chapter Eleven."
There may be some who do not know that in the United States,
"Chapter Eleven" is part of the bankruptcy laws.
Isn't it funny, too, how a man will try anything to get what
he wants? Whether the lazy guy was right or wrong look how
the ambitious guy jumped on it.
There is a saying in India that a man's weak spot is the
thing he wants the most.
It certainly looks like you could tell this first chap
nearly anything you want about riches and he would follow.
Too bad that is a pattern in a lot of people.
You should see what some folks do in the American southwest
when you speak the word "Gold".
The Hope In Man Amazes Me ...
I continually wonder what some folks would do if they did
win a lottery. A lot of people keep buying tickets and
hoping for the win but are completely, unequivocally and
entirely unable to handle such a large amount of money. Most
of them have no concept at all of how much money a million
dollars really is or what happens to ones character when in
possession of such a large amount. They have no idea at all
of what responsibilities there are with such a windfall.
Yet there isn't a one of them who doesn't think they have
complete control of themselves and are capable of handling
money like that. Too bad the record doesn't bear them out.
Indeed the record shows that nearly all who win lotteries
end up in broken marriages, disfunctional families and all
sorts of trouble that would never have emerged had too much
money not come upon them suddenly.
The Hope In Man Amazes Me ...
Yet, too, there is an enormous value in hope, for it will
keep you going where others quit. It will keep you alive
where nothing else will. It will get you through incredible
circumstances where you would not have a chance without it.
So, it becomes apparent we must decide what we are going to
do with HOPE.
We can follow our greed, with hope and it could lead us
astray. We could follow sound judgement, with hope and land
right where we want to be.
It is the thinking or the reasoning behind the hope that
give hope the power. Like everything else in life it can be
directed to good or to bad. Your choice.

Your Immune System: Delicate Yet Critical
How It Serves You And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
PART 12 of 12
As you have been reading, have you felt overwhelmed and
unsure, yet grateful to your body that it doesn't make you
realize how important and powerful your immune system is?
Take heart...here are some eye-opening equations. Optimum
amounts of nutrients and a degenerative condition equal a
renewing healthy body. A relatively healthy body without
any added chemicals, including drugs, equals a very happy
person!
Isn't it strange that those things that could have kept you
healthy naturally are not taught or discussed. It's as
though we feel our bodies are indestructible and if
something breaks down, we just need to add a few chemicals
(drugs) to patch it up! Doesn't it seem relatively simple to
repair your immune system without hurting it more?
Slowly things are changing. We are starting to pay attention
to the cause and effect aspect of our body. We pay attention
to our cars, our gardens, our homes, etc. How far behind
will our bodies come? Until something traps your attention.
And this will most likely come in the form of a very
debilitating condition. A healthy, energetic life is
entirely possible, even if you have a degenerative
condition. But it will take time to restore the protective
measures of the Immune System. It didn't get worn out in a
few days. Neither will it be restored quickly, but it can be
restored. The decision to start this repair is yours.
Remember this simple formula: more anti-oxidants than free
radicals going in equals health and longevity. Start to take
back control of your health today. The decision is yours
alone.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
It is unfortunate that after some years in
church service, attending to the people, many a
cleric succumbs to the mundane attitude that
he/she is doing this only as a job. They are to
"keep the flock happy" and their job is secure.
Therefore they do the things they know "the flock"
wants of them. Much of it is with feigned
sincerity.
Such is the cardinal. Here he is thinking he
is beyond the real world. He no longer has to be
"pious" except in public. He is now in
administration and he has to be "tough".
It is fascinating how men change when they
begin to climb the ladder. Their attitude changes.
They begin to think they are more than they are.
It is as true in the church as it is anywhere.
Greed will run the heart of man forever and it has
been shown to do so in all callings.
It is not until man learns the laws that greed
can be replaced by knowledge and wisdom. In
learning the laws man is not controlling greed. He
has to put in no effort to make greed go away. He
only has to realize he can have anything he wants
anytime he wants. There is now no more use for
greed. Wisdom and knowledge replace it and life
becomes so full and rich man is nearly overwhelmed
with love.
Yet the cardinal could not and would not see
that. He insisted on having his greed. So his
policies kept on. He made no change. As the weeks
went by he had no revenues at all. Even when
people came to church they left no money in the
collection plate. It was a phenomenon sweeping his
jurisdiction.
He had his priests issue sermons on the
subject, even getting to the point of demanding
the people give. All of them threatened, of
course, that God would look favorably upon the
giver, the threat being that if you did not give
you would be without favor. Yet the people
withheld.
There was no common agreement among the
people. They had not talked, gotten together and
arrived at this decision. It is just that the
motivation was not within them and the more the
church pushed, the less inclined the people were.
Up to now the cardinal knew his "reserves"
would keep Rome happy. But he knew those would not
take long to run out. He was getting desperate. He
had to do something.
He convened a meeting with all his priests. It
was mandatory they each attend. It would be a week
long session during which they were to plot ways
and means of changing the current condition to
where the church was once again bringing in
revenue. Not one word in the notice mentioned
serving the people. It concerned itself solely
about developing revenue for the church.
The meeting had been going on for six days. It
was about to conclude. The men had discussed
everything they could think of to get revenue for
the church. They talked of extracurricular events,
social events, developing religious holidays. They
spoke of one on one counseling with their
parishioners. Many liked that idea. They did
actually get down to the topic of whether the
church was relevant, and how did it serve the
people. Yet no answers came.
On many a day and occasion the cardinal was
questioned about the event where Sam had appeared
as an apparition unto them. He privately and
publicly dismissed it as a bad dream. He did,
however, one on one, ask many priests if they had
had any mysterious pain in their groin. None
admitted to the condition, although nearly all of
them had experienced it. It would mean confessing
their violation of their vows if they admitted to
having the pain.
On the last day the cardinal rose in front of
the priests and began an address unto them. "From
this day we must concern ourselves about revenues
for the church. It is, after all, those revenues
that keep us fed and clothed. The people can
afford to give, and even if they can't we must
have their money or we will not survive. You must
return unto your parishes and do whatever you can
to bring in money for the church. Speak with your
"elders". Impress upon them the need to change and
to increase revenues. Have them speak amongst the
people."
He didn't realize it but his words were empty.
He was desperate and his words showed it. The
group of priests could easily see his sincerity
was greed alone and that his concerns were not for
the church or the people but for himself. His
words had the effect of discouraging the priests,
not encouraging. They felt the work was now too
commercial. They did not like it.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Oats: Why do we say that a youth who's acting the gay young
blade is "feeling his oats" or "sowing his wild oats"?
It's because feeding oats to a horse makes him lively. When
a horse begins to prance around he's "feeling his oats". And
when he finds wild oats in the pasture and eats them and
then, feeling these oats, starts gadding about he will
literally as well as figuratively "sow his wild oats".
Tomorrow: Paddle Your Own Canoe: Where does the
expression "paddle your own canoe" come from?

HA! HA! HA!
At the end of their first date, a guy takes the girl home.
Emboldened by the night, the guy decides to try for the
first kiss. With an air of confidence, he leans with his
hand against the wall and, smiling, he says to her,
"Darling, how 'bout a good night kiss?"
Horrified, she replies, "Are you mad? My parents will see
us!"
Him: "Oh come on! Who's gonna see us at this hour?"
Her: "No, please. Can you imagine if we get caught?"
Him: "Oh come on, there's nobody around, they're all
sleeping!"
Her: "No way. It's too risky!"
Him: "Oh please, please, I like you so much!"
Her: "No, no and no. I like you too, but I just can't!"
Him: "Oh yes you can. Please?"
Her: No, no. I just can't."
Him: "I beg you...."
Suddenly, the light on the stairs goes on, and the girl's
sister shows up in her pajamas, hair disheveled, and in a
sleepy voice she says, "Dad says to go ahead and give him a
kiss. Or I can do it. Or if need be, he'll come down and do
it. But for crying out loud, tell him to take his hand off
the intercom button!"
