TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Are diamonds the most valuable gemstone?

If you burn a diamond, will it turn to coal?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Why does Queen Elizabeth sign official documents "Elizabeth
R."?

The "R" stands for "Regina," which means "queen".

Is it true that diamonds are indestructible?

Not at all. Diamonds are HARD stones, and the only thing
that can scratch or cut a diamond is another diamond. But
that doesn't mean you can't break one. Diamonds can be
chipped and broken. They are HARD, but not amazingly tough.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------

You Do Not Have To Know!

I overheard a conversation the other day that really tweaked
my ears. No, it was not about me.

It was two people, whom I know, carrying on a conversation
and I became interested. The result was I was sorely tempted
to participate.

Then I remembered something. I remembered a rule I set for
myself a long time ago.

You see, when two people are carrying on a conversation and
that conversation is about another person that is usually
gossip. I made a rule not to do that.

I do not mean that such a conversation is always gossip.
Often folks are trying to help someone. However, in my
experience it usually comes around to doing no good and can
be easily categoized as gossip.

The title today is You Do Not Have To Know! That is a truth.
You know what I have discovered?

I have discovered two things. The first is that what you
really NEED to know, you will. What you need to know has a
way of making its way into your intelligence. Trust that
point and you will save yourself a lot of time and grief.
The second thing I found out is that even if you do not need
to know, too often information will arrive at your doorstep
anyway.

Do not participate in gossip. I know it is a rule many
people have. However, it is also something that tempts you
everyday.

Something of which you should be aware is - all gossip is
negative. All gossip covers negative topics, emotions,
attitudes. All gossip proceeding from your lips can come
back to haunt you, primarily because of the law "As ye sow,
so shall ye reap".

A friend of mine told me a long time ago that most people
talk about people. Some people talk about things and
successful people talk about ideas.

While that sounds like a pretty hard observation, why don't
you sit back and observe what is happening around you and I
think you will soon agree with the observation.

There are many times this little tidbit can keep you from
company that will drain you of time and resources rather
than contribute to what you are doing and you to what they
are doing.

This little tidbit might make you more aware of who you are
dealing with so you will not have to waste your time trying
to sell your product or service to those who have no
interest.

Having said that there is one advantage to prospecting
through the internet. If you have a formula that permits you
to reach thousands and hopefully that exceeds one hundred
thousand, then those who are interested will come. It is a
function of numbers and change.

You Do Not Have To Know!

What Is Health? What Is Wellness?
Some Concepts To Consider
PART 2 of 5

For most people, health and wellness is a physical AND mental
state. It is the overall feeling of fitness: of having all your
body systems performing the way they are meant to: without pain
or discomfort: and a desire to conquer your own world! Just lots
of energy and confidence! A very quick and informal biology
lesson: some of the major nutrients that your body requires are
proteins, carbohydrates, fats as amino fatty acids, vitamins,
minerals, and water. In order to function efficiently, these are
required on a regular basis and in the specific amounts.
Nutrients are digested as they start in your mouth, and absorbed
through the digestive wall of your stomach and intestines. They
are then transported via your blood stream to the individual
cells in your body. Your cells use them to maintain and rebuild
body tissue. They also perform all the necessary body functions.
As well they are needed to activate, regulate, and control many
of the functions that take place in your body. But if one system
runs out because of increased needs, it will borrow from another
system. And that borrowing will continue till your body is
depleted.

One of these important functions is to maintain your body's
natural defense mechanism: the immune system. This is your
GREATEST ALLY against disease! This defense system helps your
body resist infection, and any unwanted intruders. It is very
dependent on good and adequate nutrition! Unless your eat a
variety of foods, you may not be getting all the nutrients you
need. Also the need for some nutrients can be increased or
modified when the body is stressed: i.e. surgery, infections,
short and long term illnesses, etc.

Under normal conditions, each cell in your body develops in a
very orderly fashion. Your body is made up of millions of cells,
that are organised into organs and then into systems. Very
simply, when old cells wear out, new cells replace them. Your
body totally depends on what you feed it. No two people require
the same amount of energy though they might be the same size,
gender, and age. Instead, there is a wide range of energy
"intakes" that can be considered adequate. Conversely, all our
main organs such as the heart, brain, lungs, liver, spleen, etc.
are relatively the same size. So if you are providing "optimum
amounts" of nutrients, chances are these will be adequate.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

When the nun arrived, she suspected why she
had been summoned. She had not been asked here
before and this was quite an honor, to be asked to
attend upon the office of the cardinal. Word
around the convent, amongst the nuns, was that
they were to serve the cardinals every need.
Indeed there were many children in the orphanage
that were the fruit of such a command.

So the nun was not ignorant of the import of
the call. She was wrestling, inside, with the
matter. She was not sure she wanted this and she
was not sure she wanted to go through with the
command. She knew her own career would suffer from
such thoughts, but still, this was an invasion of
her and she was not sure she would succumb to his
demands.

She entered his office and was asked to sit in
front of the desk. There was the usual drink,
relax time, then she was asked to come around the
other side of the desk where the cardinal sat.
Reluctantly she did. He put his hand on her hip
and began to look her up and down, attempting to
discern her figure beneath her habit. It was
there. It was visible. His thoughts began to have
him excited with anticipation and then it
happened. He was once more struck with
excruciating pain deep in his groin. It hurt so
bad he had to grab himself and he was rolling on
the floor as if he were going to die.

He had not even touched her except for his
hand on her hip. What was happening? She was
frightened and ran. He tried to stop her but
couldn't get the words out. She screamed and
called his office staff. They came running and saw
the cardinal writhing on the floor. They tried to
help him up. They could not. The men in the group,
who had also been in the chapel when Sam had
appeared, knew exactly what the problem was. Three
of them cleared the room of all others.

They stood there and watched the cardinal roll
on the floor. This was a long and painful one.
This was obviously not the first time it happened
with the cardinal. Each of the men present had
experienced the same thing. They knew exactly what
was happening.

Slowly the cardinal came around. This bout
lasted for 15 minutes. When he came out of it he
was red, perspiration all over him. He was weak
and powerless. The men got him up onto the couch.
He was out of breath. He looked at each of the men
and he knew they knew. He could no longer keep
secret his activities. Little did he know that all
surrounding him knew what he was up to anyway.

He was embarrassed. He felt small. He felt
they were looking upon him with disdain. He was
right. It might be one thing to break one's vow,
but to have it so open and known by all?

They looked upon him as a foolish, weakened,
old man. He was now a "paper tiger" He has lost
his authority over them. One report to Rome and
the cardinal would be transferred into oblivion.
The church was well practiced as such matters.

The men pretend continued awe of the cardinal
and pretend to help him as if they knew not what
had happened. They feigned concern, yet,
underneath they saw an opportunity. They would
remember this incident and speak to the cardinal
about it later.

That later was next day. The three had
conspired through the night. They knew what they
wanted, and they knew what the cardinal was up to.

The following day the first one entered the
cardinal's office on the pretense of business.
There was a communication that had come from Rome.
Apparently some rumors had reached Rome of
impropriety here.

The cardinals heart sank into his stomach. Who
was it that reported to Rome? How did such a rumor
get back to the Vatican?

The office worker, himself a priest along with
the others, spoke sharply, briefly, and in that
moment the cardinal's life changed. "You will do
exactly as we tell you, and this will blow over."

The cardinal was aghast. He could hardly
believe his ears. Who was this man to think he
could speak to him that way? He voiced the
question and the man simply glowered at him. Then
walking to the door, he opened it and summoned the
other two.

Now three of them stood before the cardinal.
There was no need for words. The baton had been
passed. From this day he was a pawn in the scheme
of these men. He knew authoritative word would
reach Rome, if he did not comply. He knew his
career was over, and that the best he could now
hope for was a few more years here under the thumb
of these men. He knew their hearts for he was one
of them. What they are now doing he has done. He
recognized his position instantly. He was
powerless.

TOMORROW - - - New leadership?

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Quack: Why is a medical charlatan pretending to be a
physician called a "quack"?

Because he boasts of his salves. "Quack" is really an
abbreviation of "quacksalver" which comes from the Dutch
"kwakzalver" - and this has this idea of "quacking about
one's salves." But the idea behind all these terms is that
the ""quack" is like the duck- he makes a big noise over
nothing.

Tomorrow: Rabbit Punch: why do we call a punch behind the ear in
boxing a "rabbit punch"?
