TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

I heard Napoleon was only five feet two inches tall. Did he
lie about his height?
Do people really shrink as they grow older?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Who was Alexander Hamilton and why do you see his picture on
an almost daily basis?
Alexander Hamilton was a revolutionary war hero, author of
the Federalist Papers, and the first US Secretary of the
Treasury. He's also the guy on the ten-dollar bill!
Was Napoleon really a short man?
The famous general and emperor Napoleon was five feet and
six and a half inches tall. That's short for a male in OUR
day, but in Napoleon's day, that was a bit taller than the
average Frenchman.

Jeep Launches Online Promotion
by Shankar Gupta
JEEP IS PROMOTING A NEW vehicle, the
Commander, with a campaign that's part viral and part
branded entertainment. The effort, created by interactive ad
agency Organic, went live Thursday at the site
www.WeAreTheMudds.com. The campaign reflects
DaimlerChrysler's larger strategy to increase its online
marketing efforts, said Jeff Bell, vice president of the
Chrysler and Jeep Group. "We will continue to push monies
towards interactive and experiential marketing for three
reasons," Bell told MediaPost's OMMA magazine. "First, it is
measurable. Second, it is more engaging emotionally, and
therefore effective. Third, the highest quality of creative
and technical talent is working in this area."
For now, the site--which features a family of
Jeep-enthusiasts, the Mudds--is a bit of a tease. It
includes brief bios for each of the Mudds--Brock, the
father; Tracy, the mother; and their children, Clay, Summer,
and Victoria. The site also includes a link to Victoria's
blog--eventually, the other characters will also have blogs.
The other familial blogs will be rolled out in the next two
weeks, leading up to the Commander's Oct. 1 debut. In
addition to the teaser site and the blogs, the campaign's
centerpiece will be a series of four downloadable videos,
which will feature Mudd family vacations.
Each video will reveal coordinates to a virtual
"geo-cache"-- geocaching is a hobby involving trekking to
some remote location, burying a "cache" of items, and then
posting the GPS coordinates of where that item can be found,
so others can dig it up.
Web site visitors can "dig up" the Mudd's caches by using an
application designed with the Google Maps application
programming interface. Each time a user digs up a cache,
they are entered in a sweepstakes to win, among other
things, a Jeep Commander--a seven-passenger trail-rated
vehicle.
Traffic will be driven to the site using a number of online
and offline promotions--promotional material was handed out
at Jeep's "Camp Jeep" event, and banner ads at outdoor
lifestyle sites like Outside.com, Gorp.com, and Away.com ask
users to sign up to receive updates about the Mudds'
travels. However, as of yet, no TV spots are planned
featuring the Mudds. "It's really very much an online
campaign for the moment," said Chuck Russo, Organic's chief
client development officer.
Colleen DeCourcy, the chief creative officer of Organic,
said the Mudds are "online ambassadors" for the vehicle.
"They're heroes. They're not people hiding inside of
Hummers. We were really trying to sum that up--it's the
first Jeep advertising that deals with people who would live
in the jeep as opposed to the vehicle itself."

A&P Anatomy And Physiology
PART 5 of 11
The Make Up Of Your Body And How It Functions
Your body's very basic unit is the cell and every cell has a
purpose or a function. The definition of a cell is "the
fundamental unit of all living tissue". For our purpose of
general explanation, each cell has a nucleus (the leader)
cytoplasm, in which the nucleus lives and a cell wall. There
are many other types of cells, but this one definition works
for us. So every part of your body is a cell. Nothing that
is in you is NOT a cell of some type. And these cells
perform different activities. Similar cells arrange
themselves in groups and are then called tissue. And tissue
is described as a collection of similar cells acting
together to perform a particular function. Nerve cells carry
messages to the brain. Connective tissue holds different
parts together. Muscle tissue creates all sorts of padding,
and epithelial tissue holds your body in a nice shape via
your skin. Of course, there are many more combinations.
One kidney cell is pretty ineffective, but millions of them
can keep you alive. Same for brain cells. All this similar
tissue together is now called an organ (a very important
member of society is an organ donor. The generosity of such
a gift will change the course of another person's life.) And
in grouping these organs together, you now have systems. In
essence, you are one tiny cell many times multiplied into
ten systems.
We won't get too technical, but just know that each of us
has these cells and that's the anatomy of the body: the make
up of the structures. Interestingly, people come in
different colours and races, but underneath we are all the
same. Same structures. Same organs. Same tissue. Same
systems. Same brain cells. But we seek out relationships
that make us comfortable: where we feel accepted. The same
happens with the organs and their tissue. All organs that
deal with feeding or elimination of waste production are
grouped into the Gastrointestinal or Digestive system.
Anything to do with the blood or the heart is combined and
called the Cardiovascular system. The eight other systems
are Urinary, Respiratory, Muscular, Skeletal, (often linked
together as Musculoskeletal) Endocrine, Integumentary,
Nervous, and Reproductive. So from a single cell, we have
now established a living person.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The men leading the movement to insurrection
were no idealists. They wanted this kind of power
over the people and they were quite willing to
have thousands die in the process of giving it to
them. As it is with all such movements, they
preyed on the ignorant and subjected them to only
the emotional things. It was not hard to turn a
rape by one of the army into an emotional hatred
amongst those who wanted to stop it. The real
problem was that none of the followers of this
group knew this is exactly the kind of treatment
they would get from their own leaders.
Every once in a while when the "big man"
wanted to satisfy his sexual needs he would call
for a girl from the group. Somehow, within the
group, this was natural for a leader, who was too
busy with his work to take a woman and have a
family. His actions were excused as being
necessary if they wanted to succeed. So this man
had claim to any woman or girl he wanted,
regardless of age, marital status, or wishes.
Such is the way of life where the strong and
educated lead the weak and ignorant. Many times
you don't even have to be educated, only place
yourself in a position of strength. Often that
took no more than holding a gun and standing above
those you were speaking with. Soon you could find
others who would hold guns and join you, so that
when anyone or group was faced with six or eight
guns, they would do anything they were asked to
do.
Sam knew how to stop this before it went very
far. He hovered over the area and broadcast love
unto all. He did so day and night for three days.
During that time the leaders could not think
straight. They could not hold the thoughts they
were thinking that were necessary for pushing the
insurrection forward. They found themselves
confused and without direction. People around them
could not understand. Rather than the rough
command type of communication their talk was calm
and passive.
Sam then set up a shield around each
individual in the hierarchy of leadership. He
caused that shield to send back unto each person
the commands they sent to another that were
harmful. Next he put a constriction in the barrel
of every gun for miles around. None were any
longer useable. Then he just watched.
As you might expect, sooner or later the
leadership found its wits again and once more
began to impose itself on the group around. When
someone did not follow instructions and a leader
went to slap or kick them they ended up getting
slapped or kicked themselves. That brought more
confusion. It angered the leadership, so out came
the guns. Now when someone misbehaved or failed to
carry out instructions they would get shot. Fear
ran rampant within the group. That meant that fear
also ran rampant amongst the leadership, because
of the shields Sam had placed around them.
Sure enough along came a failure was so
obvious one had to be shot, as an example to all
the others. The person was paraded, nude, in front
of all the group. He was made to kneel down and a
gun was placed to his head. When the trigger was
pulled there was a terrible screaming and
hollering. The gunman was rolling on the ground
holding his face and eyes. The gun had backfired
and blew up in his face. His screams were those of
terror. He had no idea what had happened and his
worst fears were being realized. He didn't know
but what witchcraft had turned the tables on him.
He was terrified.
The captive stood and looked at the man. There
was a joy in his face that leadership could not
permit. The head man ordered six others to raise
their weapons and fire upon the man who was to be
the example.
By command they raised their rifles, cocked
them, aimed and fired as one man. In that instant
they all were screaming and hollering, holding
their faces and rolling on the ground. Each weapon
had backfired. Leadership was now fearful. There
was some kind of witchcraft going on. He did not
understand. He was scared. He looked out upon the
people and they saw him, suddenly, for what he
was. There was a mumbling and murmuring amongst
them. They moved toward the leader. He knew what
was coming. His fears got the best of him and he
fled as fast as he could.
The man paraded nude was once again clothed
and all was well.

It was three o'clock in the morning, and the receptionist at
a posh hotel was just dozing off, when a little old lady
came running towards her, screaming.
"Please come quickly!" she yelled, "I just saw a naked man
outside my window!"
The receptionist immediately rushed up to the old lady's
room.
"Where is he?" asked the receptionist.
"He's over there," replied the little old lady, pointing to
an apartment building opposite the hotel.
The receptionist looked over and could see a man with no
shirt on, moving around his apartment.
"It's probably a man who's getting ready to go to bed,"
she said reassuringly. "And how do you know he's
naked, you can onlysee him from the waist
up?"
"The dresser!" screamed the old lady. "Try
standing on the dresser!
