In Greek tragedies, what is the difference between "hubris"
and "hamartia"?
"Hamartia" is the fatal flaw that brings a good character to
his ruin. The class example of hamartia is "hubris," or
pride.
What causes lightning?
Scientists are re-thinking their theories on what causes
lightning. Lightning occurs when particles of frozen water
collide with ice crystals inside large clouds, generating
positive and negative electrical charges, which separate
within the cloud - the negative charges moving downward and
the positive charges upward - and form a lightning bolt. But
recent research suggests that the layers of charged
particles are sometimes reversed, with positive charges
sinking to lower regions, says Paul Krehbiel, a researcher
at the New Mexico School of Mines and Technology. A
surprising number of storms also produced an accompanying
"positive to ground" form of lightning, in which positive
charges rush to the ground and cause a reverse flow of
negative charges -- an effect opposite of typical lightning
strikes. Krehbiel says such lightning strikes tend to be
more powerful, and may be more common than had been
realized. "Storms may reverse their polarity all the time,
but we just never knew it," he said.

Here's To Think On ...

Thanks For The Memories!
I sit at my desk, working on the computer, looking out my
window, and fighting off a nasty bug.
As I look out, watching the birds at the feeder, looking at
the snow on the ground, I find myself humming Bob Hope's
signature tune "Thanks For The Memories".
I know not why, yet as I look out the window I am also
remembering what a glorious summer this was. I remember the
grandchildren in the hot weather, going swimming. I remember
two of them, young boys, making rifles out of sticks and
going looking for "bad guys" in the bush and along the paths
in the untouched land behind us.
The girls, of course, had other activities. They would be
changing their clothes three or four times a day, experiment
with make-up and giggle about the boys and other things that
are important to girls.
Moms and Dads would work on their cabins or in their yards
getting things "just right". Grandmas and Grandpas were
there to tell stories, help out, kiss bruises, or be "bad
guys". Grandmas would bring out the snacks and the beverages
and the fruit. If the kids were good that day they might be
allowed to swipe some of Grandpa's favorite cookies. If
Grandpa caught them at it he had to chase them until he was
out of breath, but they would always come back for more.
Thanks For The Memories!
Today, I see new memories developing, a new season, new
things appearing. Last night, for example, now that the
summer folks have left, we had four moose in our front yard.
They chewed a little on Mom's frozen marigolds and
snapdragons, but I guess they prefer other food. They left
our beach all chewed up with footprints, and the light snows
allowed us to see where they came from and went to. All kind
of neat really.
We now have the last flocks of geese flying high overhead.
We had a flock of swans land for a bit of a rest, while on
their way south, and Chatterer, our noisy squirrel is true
to the advertisement 3M have on T.V.. He must have a
thousand or more place where he stashes food. The truth is
he can't go anywhere and be hungry. He has nooks and
crannies all over the place.
Oh! How I love to watch the ebbs and flows of nature.
Is it any wonder why I'm humming . . .
Thanks For The Memories!

Some Thoughts On Chelation Therapy
Learning About Possible
Metal Toxicity In Your Body
PART 2 of 11
I started out by looking up definitions: here is how Mosbys
Defined Chelation: A chemical reaction in which there is a
combination with a metal to form a ring-shaped molecular
complex in which the metal is firmly bound and isolated.
Chelating agent: a substance that promotes chelation.
Chelating agents are used in the treatment of metal
poisoning. So it seems to be similar to the concept of
putting down sawdust to soak up an oil spill...or adding a
raw potato to salty soup to get rid of the excess salt. It
tells me that the agent gets together (bonds) and pulls out
(isolates) the offending destructive metal, taking it out of
harms way.
Naturally that led me to wonder what metals I wanted to get
out of my body.
http://nccam.nih.gov/chelation/chelation_new.pdf I wondered
what kind chelating agents I was looking for and who makes
the decision to do this procedure. The more I kept reading,
the more concerned I have become. This is not something to
take lightly. I asked myself if I want to have a chemical
put INTO me (and by what route) to take something out. But
like all medical discoveries, risks are part of the
development of new practices. Its fine to take a position
when you are relatively healthy. Its an entirely different
proposition when this is presented to you as a life-saving
treatment: your only chance. So one needs to ask themselves
how much risk is one ready to take. Is this realistic or
not? Is it a calculated, educated risk?
I will share some website links and a few paragraphs of
information that I hope will help you advance your knowledge
just a little. Please do not by any stretch of your
imagination feel this information is conclusive. It should
raise a lot of questions for you. However, I feel the
subject is important enough for me to ask some questions and
hopefully find both you and me a few knowledgeable and
trustworthy, objective sites to study. (That last phrase
presented a bit of a challenge in all I read.)

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

While this village, as a whole, did not live
by higher law, they certainly lived by the
principles of giving and no one set foot in this
village without getting all the village could
offer. None here felt material goods was the
answer to life, but love only.
For a short while at least, there was a bit of
a break in the activity Sam and Alewka had
started, but that was all, brief. They had three
days with no other visitors in the village and so,
to them, they had the whole village to themselves.
Sam and Alewka liked that. They loved, dearly, all
in the village and the village loved them back.
They held no special functions for the couple
as they were frequent visitors and knew everyone.
Besides, as with the villagers, Sam and Alewka
thought every day was special and each was topped
off by a fire. It could be said that was Sam's
favorite part of the day, the camp fire.
After three days without visitors the village
had a group show up from Oomano's and Romano's
orphanage in Matto Grosso. They wanted the kids to
be here for a while then move on to see Riata's
place in China.
But there was a surprise, too. Ben and Helen
Striker decided to come for a visit. They had
learned to love this place and they knew Sam and
Alewka were both here. Additionally, not having
any children of their own, they loved to be around
the village kids. They had sort of "adopted"
Eloise's and Mazunta's kids.
"Sam, you've changed." Ben looked at Sam as if
he didn't believe it was his old friend. "What
happened to you?"
Sam explained what had happened some months
back in Matto Grosso. Ben understood immediately.
"Good work, Sam. Maybe we should stand up to
that kind of thing more often. We have three new
clerics in Pinehill. They are young idealists,
fresh out of training. They speak as if they,
themselves, wrote every word in the bible and are
condemning every facet of what they hear about us.
We had a rock through our window the other day. It
has been eight or more years now since they took
after you. There's a whole new crop of believers
out there who follow these young radicals. When
you get back we might have to deal with them."
"You know how to handle the situation, Ben. Do
it."
"I went over to your place and to Susan's
place. Each of you had broken windows. They are
all fine now, but we seem to have some rock
throwing hatred in our midst. That's one of the
reasons we came down here. We wanted to get away
and do some thinking. You've been through this
before. How did you handle it?"
Sam explained it to Ben. "You were the Police
Chief at the time, if you recall. You were there."
"Yes, Sam, but not as living by higher law. I,
in my mind, then, was the law. Oh my. How ignorant
I was." Ben laughed.
"Amazing isn't it? We all think we are the
world's experts, then we move up the ladder of
knowledge and begin to realize it is never over.
It is only then that we realize how little we
really know. I am so fortunate for having learned
higher law I spend my entire days in an attitude
of gratitude."
Then words came on the air as if from nowhere.
"Sam Henry you sound as if this is some sort of
luck. You worked, learned and earned your
position. There is no luck involved, neither for
anyone. Each is responsible for their own growth.
Each is his/her own saviour."
"Thanks, Sien. I needed that." Sam recognized
the voice and knew who spoke.
Sure enough, within seconds, there was Sien.
"I wanted to join you. At Tim's and Sharon's
wedding we were all rather busy. I just wanted to
visit, and I didn't want to wait for your visit to
my place. I have informed the other masters you
are coming. You will be treated well."
"Sien, sometimes you know too much. Thank you.
We really look forward to being at your place. Mae
and Susan tell us it is hewn right out of the
cliff side, going deep within the rock."
"It was created by brothers to be a place of
solitude and quiet. From there we keep watch in
earth every day. We have it all covered and we
broadcast love continually. The brothers need a
place to rest and once more become centered. That
is why the place is built the way it is. You will
like it."
"I'm looking forward to it, Sien. Now, what
can we do for you?"
"Not a thing, Sam, hi Ben. I see, Sam, you had
a confrontation similar to our brother. I can see
by your stature and countenance you had a meeting
with Jesus."
"Yes. I am not yet altogether sure what need
there is for me, but I know I will find the
answers."

HA! HA! HA!
A beautiful woman walked into an orchard and found a lovely
pool in it. She decided to go skinny-dipping. She looked
around, didn't see anyone, and undressed.
Just as she was about to dive in, the orchard owner appeared
from behind the bush where he was hiding all along and told
her that swimming was prohibited.
"You could have told me that before I undressed!" she scolded
him.
He replied, "Swimming is prohibited, undressing isn't..."
