Is there more than one solider in the Tomb of the Unknown

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Is it true there were two US postal services during the
Civil War?
Yes. The Confederate States of American formed its own Post
Office Department. The postal services reunited again after
the war under the central control of the federal government.
Why is Veterans Day November 11?
Because that's the anniversary of the end of World War I.
Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day. In 1954,
the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor ALL US
veterans, not just those that fought in World War I.

Aprons
I don't think our kids know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the
dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a
potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on
occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs,
fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished
in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for
shy kids.
And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her
arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over
the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in
that apron.
From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After
the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had
fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising
how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of
seconds.
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch,
waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in
from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that
will replace that "old-time apron" that served so many
purposes.
Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window
sill to cool.
Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

Anaphylaxis: A Medical Emergency
PART 1 of 11
Anaphylaxis represents a state of protection.
Essentially that means your body is protecting you
against something that has just entered it. Something
that will upset the wellbeing of your entire body. We
are not talking about a little cut or a bruised elbow.
This can be a life threatening situation.
Lets explore what anaphylaxis is by looking at some a)
definitions, b) possible causes, c) signs and symptoms
(seeing how your body reacts naturally), and d) some
treatment options. I will conclude with my thoughts
about possible prevention. Please keep in mind we are
exploring anaphylaxis: not allergies. Ill also share
a couple of my own experiences to illustrate the
heart-racing situations. The more you know, the more
helpful you can be, if the situation ever came up. Even
just reading my experiences will help you be more
practical. You will be amazed at your capabilities if
you have the slightest idea how to help in an
emergency! This kind of emergency truly is an
emergency. So a tiny bit of insight can be of
tremendous value. Please make sure you do NOT use this
information for anything more than just a learning
experience.
This is an extremely complex situation, so please dont
assume anything. But I want to simplify it to make it
understandable. Hence do NOT use it for class
presentations unless you can speak about it in your own
words. I will add links to helpful sites. Do
investigate this more if you read anything that might
impact your family. I am also gearing this information
more towards adults. Children have their own
challenges. I am not a nurse who has ever specialized
in pediatrics for any length of time. So what I will be
discussing is meant for an adult: not an infant or
child. Their bodies react differently and in most
cases, much more quickly. Also their doses of emergency
drugs will be different.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.
-----------------------END DISCLAIMER
So how do you like the story about the apron? It sure brings
to mind a long ago more peaceful time doesn't it?
I lived through those times and they were peaceful. If a man
had an argument with his neighbor they would talk it out. If
they didn't want to then their women would make them.
In small town America and Canada the people knew it was not
right to hold a grudge against a neighbor. In fact most
folks were there to help neighbors during planting and
harvest. None could afford the silly little grudges that get
in peoples way today. The people were more peaceful of mind
and soul. They knew that getting along was much more
productive than fighting. They lived the principle and went
out of their way to prevent conflict. They cared about
others.
A far cry from what things are today. Everything today
revolves around money. Profit, profit, profit.
I just read a news story today about one chemical company in
the US that is selling growth hormones to farmers in the
dairy industry. Apparently it produces more milk.
What they don't tell you is it causes much pain to the
cattle and the farmer then has to administer antibiotics. So
far it doesn't sound really too bad does it? I mean so far
this doesn't affect you so you don't have to worry, right?
Well, think again. The growth hormones and the antibiotics
end up in milk. When taken long enough it has been linked to
cancer AND because our bodies have antibiotics in them then
bacteria, in order to survive, have to become immune to the
antibiotic. The scene is now set for a super-bug, one immune
to any known treatment, to hit and do much damage.
Oh! How long has this been going on? Nearly ten years. The
practice is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
It is a wide-spread practice all over the US. In Canada the
health authorities did not accept the practice and forbid it
in Canada. The US, however, is a time bomb just waiting for
a super-bug to hit. Mind you maybe all this is just fine. It
is being done for profit so I guess if it is done to make
money that makes it okay.
Far cry from the times when Grandma used to wear an apron,
isn't it? In those days not one person would think of
practicing anything like giving their cattle growth
hormones. They plain and simply would not even think of
doing it. They would then have known, deep inside, that it
was wrong. It took years and years of change to get men and
women to the point where they think doing that practice was
acceptable. Even then they had to be sold on it. Now look at
the result.
Having peace of mind means standing on principle. There is
not peace when you are doing something you know will harm
others. There is no need to mess with nature and the more
you do the more likely you will create circumstances from
which man will not survive.
Do you see why I stress peace so much? Do you see why peace
of mind is vital you your well being and the well being of
those around you? Do you see why it is vital to teach your
children to be peaceful, clear headed thinkers? It is your
responsibility. Peace begins with you.
Peace and prosperity can be yours right where you are. That
is what the story The Saga of Pinehill is about, a blueprint

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Hang Fire: What is the reason a delayed action is said to
"Hang fire"?
It's because a flintlock gun does not always go off
immediately. Thought the spark has been set, the powder in
the pan may fizz for a while before exploding the charge
behind the shot.
